Or I should say, things started looking bleak there. Then the Turang homer in the seventh pretty much made it feel impossible.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
Felt like it was over when they had 2 on, nobody out in the 6th and didn’t score.

The rise of the Barstool bro types is easily the most infuriating part of sports in the 21st century. Easily. Fuck Portnoy and fuck everyone trying to *be* Portnoy. I remember when my sports was (relatively) free of this zoo crew obnoxiousness, and I want it back.

It's 6 AM in Eugene, Oregon and Pat McAfee has had his coffee this morning.

I haven’t played an AC game in YEARS. I would play the SHIT out of this. Take my money Ubisoft or whomever.

Blue Jays fans on here already salivating at the thought of getting this Mariner team on short rest across the country after that marathon for game 1.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
15 inning marathon feels like it deserves a bevel?
kyleksparks.bsky.social
Saw the Tigers have stranded 10 and the Mariners stranded 9, and in both cases, I felt like the count was too low.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
Yes. Make it happen, MLB owners.

After the 15th inning it is time to replace one player with a dog until someone wins or it's all dogs.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
Can't wait for the Tigers to load the bases with no outs, and somehow manage to not score a run, because this game will continue until the heat death of the universe.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
Double play incoming somehow, because there's no end in sight. No leaving. This is now your life. You made the mistake of getting involved and caring about the outcome here. You're stuck.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
God, eliminate them both and just send Toronto to the World Series. This has moved away from exciting and is sprinting toward just being sad.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
Not really concerned with the outcome here, but enough obnoxious Lions and or Wolverine fans in my life are rooting for Detroit, and I very much don't want them to be happy, so here we are.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
M’s absolutely choking the shit out of this game. Honestly impressive.

First pitch: Ball one, low and outside.

It leaves them in a really weird position. They're wildly unpopular, they can't cling to anything that *makes* them popular, they can't skip to the end, and they're long past the point of no return. If it weren't happening in our country with global ramifications, it'd be fascinating to watch.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
This is what befuddles me. They ARE running out of juice. And on some level, the smarter ones know they can't skip the number of steps they'd have to to truly make this a permanent fixture of the US government (as permanent as it can be at least). But they also know they've come too far to quit now.

The last time Milwaukee specifically was here was 2011. They went up 2-0 on Arizona at home, lost two straight in Phoenix, and then won Game 5 in 10 innings back in Milwaukee.

Every other time the Cubs went down 0-2 in a Divisional Series (1998, 2007, 2008), they got swept.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
Does all this mean anything? Not really.

Is it predictive of what will happen Saturday in Milwaukee? Probably not.

Is it interesting to me? Well, yeah, but that doesn't say much.

I just kept hearing "only 7 times before," and whenever I hear that I go, "But out of how many?"

So there you go.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
That means if a 2-0 series gets to a 5th game, the team that was DOWN 0-2 (pending Saturday night's result) is 7-4 in those games.

If a team goes down 0-2 and they're on the road in game 5, their record in those deciding fifth games is 4-2.

If the 0-2 team is at home for game 5, they're 3-2.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
Since the 1995 format change, Cubs/Brewers is the 70th time a team has gone up 2-0 in a best-of-five Divisional Series (including two others this year). Of them:

40 ended in sweeps.
18 were extended to 4 games.
12 went the full 5.

Of those 12, the team down 0-2 has won 7 times (3 at home, 4 away).
kyleksparks.bsky.social
At this point, you have to imagine that the pressure is ALL on the Brewers. Haven't won a postseason series since 2018, on the verge of blowing a 2-0 lead, would be only the 8th team in the 30ish years of the Division format to have done so...

Doesn't make it any less nerve wracking as fan though.

I would very much like Malik Willis to be playing in this game. Specifically, in the 4th quarter, while Love and the starters get a rest up 4 scores or so. Can we make that happen, please?
kyleksparks.bsky.social
FYI, Dodgers were 3-4 against the Cubs this year, 0-6 against the Brewers.
kyleksparks.bsky.social
The amount of pressure on the Brewers on Saturday night to not choke this series away…yikes.
