This is one of the worst violations of research ethics I've ever seen. Manipulating people in online communities using deception, without consent, is not "low risk" and, as evidenced by the discourse in this Reddit post, resulted in harm.

You are more likely to call friends and family the former. The latter is reserved to the truly heinous people who would never be in your circle, or you would kick them out if they became one.

I love that everyone is talking about the eclipse, but it's hardly going to be noticeable to those not paying attention. I went to the sunrise one back in 2021, and it was amazing, as are all eclipses, but you need to get high, and it will not change the lighting that much because it's partial.
