Why don't you want kids to open their minds?

I'm not "opening my mind" to let being afraid of the possibility that some elementary school kid considers their gender into it. My own kid did that shit at fucking FOUR and it's fine. There's no harm in kids examining their lives and trying things.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
Sorry for taking your handle at face value. I guess I'll treat you like a liar, then.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
frequently made to just follow directions and leave all the thinking up to adults. Why would you mentally disable children by refusing to prepare them to consider their own needs in this way?
ladyaranea.bsky.social
How the fuck do they know if it applies to them if you don't spell out clearly that it might? Even as an adult, I KNEW about trans women for half a decade before I ever considered that I could BE one, because some people need to be instructed to examine themselves. Kids, especially, because they are
ladyaranea.bsky.social
The World Health Organization does. They say that kids should start learning those things at FIVE.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
This is you making the claim that it wasn't. bsky.app/profile/blez...
blezzyerheart.bsky.social
Yeah but it can also tell kids who are suffering from other kids, maybe its this, and they might get confused.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
Ok, so now you're making the claim that it's bad to teach kids about what trans people are because they might get confused because other kids have made them sad. How the fuck are we supposed to interpret that if not as opposition to kids learning about trans people?
ladyaranea.bsky.social
pointless. Who are you even arguing with if you agree with us on that?
ladyaranea.bsky.social
It's unclear what you're objecting to, then. You invented the spectre of "steering" when nobody else suggested that we tell children that they're trans without real justification. If you agree that kids deserve to be taught that trans people exist and what it means to be trans, your objections are
ladyaranea.bsky.social
I bet that the ones who really want to become paleontologists stick with it over a prolonged period of time before ever making any decisions that become permanent, like choice of school/major or anything. You know, the way that doctors require persistent gender identity for trans kids.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
Yes. Why do you think being trans is an adult subject if you think that trans kids exist and deserve the right to live their truth and get all the care they need? Explain that discrepancy to me.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
How is it ok to read them books about people but not to mention directly that some people are trans, and that means that their gender identity doesn't match what they were assigned at birth?
ladyaranea.bsky.social
offhandedly mentioning that all the suffering to that point was needlessly cruel and arbitrary?
ladyaranea.bsky.social
Gender dysphoria isn't an adult subject. Gender identity isn't an adult subject. Children experience gender dysphoria, and ALL children have a gender identity of some kind.

When do YOU think we should introduce kids to the idea of gender? How much of puberty should we put trans kids through before
ladyaranea.bsky.social
She's worried that a 3rd grader will leap straight onto years of puberty blockers without any kind of screening process. Because she has no idea what goes into any of this, and thinks you can just roll down to the gender store and buy gender pills.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
And comprehensive education before puberty that prepares children to recognize feelings like gender dysphoria, and guides them toward the right medical pathways to correct it, if necessary.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
Arguably, most of us. And living in places that want to "let us be" by not teaching us our options and how to figure out what we're feeling causes irreversible damage, both physically and psychologically.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
Then you agree that it's fine to teach 8 year olds that trans people exist, and what it means to be trans. Right?
ladyaranea.bsky.social
that we exist in a value-neutral and objective way. It's literally the rhetoric that MAGA uses to be palatable to normies. You're fear-mongering about too many kids being trans.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
My perspective is the relevant one in this scenario. I survived the treatment you're advocating, with extreme psychological damage to show for it. You're some random cis person, worried about nothing, claiming that kids are going to jump onto some kind of trend to be trans if you just teach them
ladyaranea.bsky.social
It's age appropriate to tell 5 year olds that people aren't always the gender they were assigned at birth, that some people claim other genders than what they were assigned, and that people who were thought to be boys/girls sometimes end up being girls/boys or something else.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
facts like that would confuse them (which is exactly what MAGA folks say about the same topic). I don't have ANY indication from you that you think it's ok to be trans if you're a kid. You've only indicated a desire to discourage kids from considering the possibility until an unspecified age.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
Is it? You don't want kids thinking about their gender until an unspecified time after they're already under time pressure from puberty. You haven't specified WHEN you want them taught that they could be a different gender than what they were assigned at birth; you've only said that telling them
ladyaranea.bsky.social
You're right. You sanitized it by calling it STEERING instead. Which means the same shit, but is a different word.
ladyaranea.bsky.social
to you and nobody else. That's age appropriate.
