Fourth Wing Review
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, the first book in The Empyrean series, is set in Navarre, a kingdom alongside fearsome dragons. The protagonist, Violet, faces an unexpected path on Conscription Day, shifting from her scribe aspirations to surviving in the dangerous Riders Quadrant. The story features a diverse cast, emotional betrayals, and a mix of humor and complexity, particularly with the dragon characters. While the world-building is appreciated, the review notes excessive foreshadowing and issues with spice levels that detract from the experience. Additionally, concerns about relationship boundaries and anachronistic language affect immersion. Overall, it received a 3.5-star rating.

Of Mice and Men Review
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, published in 1937, is a historical fiction novel that explores the lives of two migrant workers, Lenny and George, as they pursue their dreams amidst challenges. The book's themes of racism, misogyny, and its controversial content have sparked debates about its suitability for youth, despite advocacy for contextual guidance.

Empire of Shadows Review
Empire of Shadows by Jacquelyn Benson, the first installment in the Raiders of the Arcana series, is an adventure set in 1898, featuring suffragette Ellie and the charming Adam Bates. The book opens during a protest where Ellie, depicted as an irritable character, inadvertently stumbles upon a treasure map, leading her and Adam on an exhilarating quest to discover a lost Mayan city. Despite the engaging plot and Adam's likable persona, the review critiques Ellie's incessant anger, diminishing the overall enjoyment. The cover art is noted as intriguing but lacking depth, missing meaningful connections to the story. Overall, the narrative blends romance with historical elements.
