Hello i am late to the party but i wish to give my 2 cent to the "discord requiring ID" debate! I am personally ok with it. this doesn't mean anyone else has to be, but i'll share how i see it (a lot of it echos @Percy 's points) 1: it stops children being able to easily access nsfw content. I approve of this for reasons i hope i wouldn't have to explain to anyone. I've heard more and more stories about children being groomed and harmed through discord over the last year than i had hoped to hear of in a lifetime. both from online and in person sources. 2: to expand on the last point, it protects creators from having to worry that children are accessing their NSFW content. I was originally very warey of this being a real risk a few years ago, which is why i haven't posted much of it myself until more recently. 3: as percy said, i feel the only way you can keep anyone from accessing your data is to go completely off grid. yes reducing your online presence is a noble goal, similar to helping the environment in little ways is better than trying to go completely cold turkey from civilization. However i feel the taxation it would take on my mental health to worry about it near constantly is not worth the price of reduction personally. 4: i believe the benefits outweigh the negatives personally. If i refuse to use discord, they will barely notice. However i am very confident the people who would notice are the small creators i follow and try to support and help. In a world where the algorithm is constantly fucking creators over and we're struggling to make ends meet, platforms like discord are literally our lifeblood for putting food on the table 5: the lonliness would be unbearable. I live far removed from transport and cities as i can't afford to buy a car or move out. Discord is one of the only ways i can keep in contact with people.

The “they’re taking our jobs!!!!!!” Argument against immigration makes zero sense btw. Even if it’s true that you got laid off so your boss could hire an immigrant at poverty wages, the person to be mad at on behalf of both of you is your boss, not the immigrant just trying to survive lol
