I've been enjoying #Midgard tremendously so I thought I'd write up a review/summary of my thoughts on the game over at the blog. I mostly use the blog for project photos, but it's nice to stretch the writing muscles from time to time. lairofthelagomorph.com/2025/10/09/a... #spreadthelard
A Review of Midgard Heroic Battles
I noticed last post that I was starting to mention aspects of Midgard Heroic Battles that I’d never really explained and felt that a review post for the game might be in order. Clearly if you’ve se…

Been thoroughly enjoying reading #SecretPassages 2. The whole concept just cool and a good read. Nice trip down memory lane and beyond (not quite old enough to have experienced all of it!). Heartily recommended picking both #1 and #2, and look forward to what’s coming next @jdhoare.bsky.social
Photo of Secret Passages #2 on my paint palette newly decorated with one of the very cool (and shiny) stickers I got with it!

Painted this cool Chaos sorcerer from GD 2010 after a day of paging through the old Realm of Chaos books and feeling the need to paint something with a tentacle on it. #Warhammer

Excellent time playing #Midgard last night with @djchamb.online and other friends. Made good use of the bases I made last week and my Warhammer collection. Skaven and Undead vs Dwarves and Bretonnians, with some Treemen spicing up the action! #spreadthelard #wargaming

Thanks for that, I like the colour. A similar one I’ve tried is Scale 75 Ardennes Green which is pretty close but a tad darker to what you have in the photo.

What colour do you use for your base rims? I’ve been experimenting with non-goblin green green base rims recently, and quite like the colour you have there.

Some test models for my Punic Wars armies, models are @warlordgames.com Hail Caesar Punic Wars, based for #Midgard on some bases I modelled and printed for this purpose. I wasn't sure how I'd go painting this scale but it's a fun relaxed kind of painting, enjoyed it!

Made up a bunch of pine forests over the last few days, initially to be used for some WW2 gaming but will come in handy for any cold weather gaming!

That’s become my philosophy over the last few years and I’ve enjoyed myself tremendously. I’ve “dropped” many projects over that time but I find I get back to them eventually. Just need to wait for that particular inspiration to come back around!
Painting is meant to be fun not a chore.

Overall the elves just couldn’t keep up and the reputation deficit just spiralled. Legolas was lethal with his arrows but he might have been better served charging in to bring morale back to his army!

#Midgard is great fun, and easy to pick up. Heartily recommend it!

Well the game was a ton of fun. Gildor challenged Shagrat to single combat at the onset of battle and got absolutely pasted. The Mordor cavalry then did a nice job of taking on the elves and eagles on the right with Shagrat who was amassing reputation by wildly charging into anything that got close.

It did take me a while to realise this, despite spending years playing cobbled together RPG systems. The trick seemed to be to realise wargaming is (for me) much better as a fun narrative activity than a competitive one. Who wins a game is much less significant than the stories that emerge from it.

Needed to bring the old War of The Ring trays and monster bases up to common frontages so quickly smashed out these adapters in tinkercad and printed them out. The text says “One tray to adapt them all”, which is clearly a lie because I had to make 3 different kinds of trays but close enough!
