Hi! I'm Alex, a game dev who's just learning how to code, and that's what this account will all be about! I use Godot to do my code, and I make my pixel art using Pixilart.
My current game I'm working on is a simple beat-'em-up to practise coding and pixel art in general.
Fuck it I'm running it with only five.
I can always add more later.
I've come up with what enemies I want in the game, no art yet though, still working on the ground and shit
I feel like I'm missing something because my sprite set only has two (maybe four if I change the intended stages) sprites in it (not counting enemies and background non-collidable decoration)
I cannot focus on drawing these platforms to save my life.
Thank God there's no estranged trigger-happy psychos who are just lookin' for an excuse to kill someone walking around.
Halfway through these level designs and in realising that I can't actually draw this
So I'm gonna go for something simpler, like maybe make Minecraft-esque tiles and using those

But it's not doing it's idle animation like the tutorial guide guy's is, so is it working or not?? Is it functioning differently due to an update or is an instantiation different from drag-n'-dropping onto the root scene????
I can't fucking tell!
I don't fucking know!
I'm trying to drag it from the same place the guy in the tutorial did, but that was a year ago so they might've changed it...
I'm dragging it from the FileSystem panel, yes.
I think instantiating works.
But, it might be something entirely different and I might've fucked myself over in a way I won't understand until it is far too late.
But I'm gonna run it anyway
I don't even know what to search up to help me fix this issue, because I don't know what I'm trying to do is supposed to be called.
I found one Reddit post that goes over the exact issue, but no-one ever answered it, and I can't find anything else

Okay nevermind I can input a value manually to get it precise but that doesn't fix my first issue
I am so angry.
I can't drag my player scene into my game scene for no apparent reason, and while trying to do so, I accidentally moved the centre node and Godot wants me to move it back but it's being SO goddamn picky about it being PERFECTLY back in place.
Luckily, problem two sorted itself out when I downloaded the sprite sheet through the website instead of taking a screenshot, which makes sense lol.
Anyway, idle animation is all sorted out!
I've added it to my giant backlog of games I want to play when I get a desktop, though
I've tried but unfortunately, my ChromeOS can't run it, and I don't have a desktop
Number two's easy to figure out. Simply separate the sprites into boxes and make sure they're all in line, then get rid of the boxes. Working on that now.
Number one's a bit trickier. I'm sure the tutorial I'm using will cover it at some point, but currently that's beyond me.
Problem number one: The textured background is showing up behind my sprite and I don't know how to get rid of it
Problem number two: I need the sprites to be in boxes so that it doesn't jut to the right during animation
I'll figure this out in the morning, I've got to go to bed.
I'd love to! Great work on publishing a game!

I think I figured it out.
If Godot is open and you edit the files or folders by adding or deleting shit, everything corrupts.
So all I have to do is save and quit to project list, close Godot for extra safety, then add the shit I want to, and reopen.
Makes sense in all reality.
Okay so I restarted the whole thing and every single file corrupted and I am very confused
I am going to try again, but if it turns out that Godot can't run on my Chromebook for some reason, I don't quite know what I'll do
(except probably move to using Godot on my tablet / phone or something)
I figured it out!
Turns out, I have TWO storage devices on my Chromebook
One that I can't access using my Chromebook
And the other that's called 00000000000000000000 cafe food 2019, which I CAN access
Keep in mind that I did not name this, since I had no idea it existed till now
Finished the sprite sheet for the player character!
(I think. This is my first time doing this, but it looks right)
I appreciate it, but I'm kinda enjoying the smaller pixel art style!
In hindsight, I am not good enough at pixel art to animate in this good enough detail, so I'm switching to smaller sprites and ditching this entirely
I really need to move on and work on the other animations, but I've reached the point where I'm okay with the idle sprite
