~o’vehu-yei shi emyu thonryastu~ - like worms under a smith’s hammer Lashunta Phrase from today's Chapter 22 of _A Castrovel Adventure_, in which Lady Vaeol describes the blasted swampwood south of Stranglerback on the way to Lost Hoshiasa. Literal Translation: “[adverb/postpositional-marker]’[worm]-[relative adverb] [under/down] [hammer] [blacksmith:(possessive adjective)].” This phrase is peculiar, since it’s a dialect hybrid. It juxtaposes an adverbial postpositional construction: ~O’vehu-yei~ - “like/as worm(s)” (typical of Upper-Yaro Valley dialects, such as Son) with a prepositional construction more typical of Qabarat: ~Shi emyu thonryastu~ -”under hammer [of the] smith”. This is a a common formula used by Upper-Yaro speakers with a formal education in uttering a complex set of modifying phrases, in which Qabarat speech patterns begin creeping into their utterances. Dialect comparisons: Today’s Version : ~O’vehu-yei shi emyu thonryastu.~ Upper Yaro Version: ~O’vehu-yei emyu-shei thonryasti.~ Note the possessive of ~Thonryas~ - smith/blacksmith - takes the spiritual gender (~thonryasti~) to agree with the whole postpositional phrase ~emyu-shei~. By default, adverbial phrases occur in the spiritual gender. Qabarat Version: ~Yi vehu shi emyu thonryastu.~ Note the preposition ~Yi~ (like; as) replaces the postpositional suffix ~-yei~, which allows dropping the adverbial/postpositional-marker ~O’~ The possessive ~Thonryastu~ now appears in the animal gender, agreeing only with the prepositional object ~Emyu~ - hammer.
