(Though it should also be noted that they rate the game out of 5 stars which isn't very precise compared to other outlets and also just inherently works different.)

I think it's fair to give the game a lower score if you believe the difficulty actively retracts from the enjoyment. It's good to get different takes from different types of people, that's the only way the game can get reviewed fairly.
