I've met multiple people who call the guys on the chain who bite you in Mario games "Noam Chompskys" independently of each other, so I say we're already halfway there.

This is all I'm going to see forever now.

Now, AI is being used as a tool to discipline "white collar" workers by being used as a threat to convince them they're expendable, precarious, etc. Both result in a more insecure workforce, with less solidarity. That is my understanding of the argument. 2/2

Globalization (i.e. trade deals, etc.) disciplined "blue collar" workers by making their jobs easier to outsource. Neoliberalism (the marketization of everything) did the same by ideologically chipping away at the idea of a public good, government benefits, collectivism, etc. 1/

You're exactly right. A whole class of people who had 95% of the world they wanted and got so high on their own supply they talked themselves into thinking that the way to get the last 5% was to grab the steering wheel and and turn towards a brick wall.

These people are incapable of understanding *anything* beyond the level of being mad at specific individuals. I'm less mad at some random person who turns up in the files more mad that it shows *how connected an entire echelon of our society was to a notorious child sex trafficker!*

Kid on college tour #1: "This place seems cool. Quad is pretty, the dorms seem nice. Good vibe. I like it."

Kid on college tour #2: "I GOOGLED WHERE HAS THE LEAST ASIANS SO I CAN ESCAPE ASIAN EDUCATIONAL NORMS."

Kid #1: "Okay." *pulls out phone, pretends to text, wanders to other side of group.*

For sure. If you watch the Freedom Riders documentary, there's a scene all about how mad they were at MLK, Jr. for- as they perceived it- not supporting them more. And then they all, like, go smile for cameras together. Hell, ACT UP *started* because of disagreements within the AIDS movement!

I would have paid money to be a fly on the wall for these conversations.

"Here to listen and learn" says the bio of the person who has been all caps screaming at everyone in the thread.

Yeah, this is also part of the whole classic political process theory formulation, and points to how important it is to understand the actual sociopolitical terrain you're acting within as a movement (which, to your point above, the CRM *very much did*).

Yeah, when it was done, I turned to my partner and said "...did they just do one of the best Star Trek eps of the 21st century?" Full on cried at like three different points. Genuine ethical dilemma related to the world of Trek solved by the ingenuity of the characters. Nice relationship moments. A+

Strong "I overheard two *liberal young people* in a Starbucks talking about how they actually *love* Donald Trump but aren't allowed to say it" vibes.

I had an ex whose dad was super racist and he would just like invent new racism on the fly and this is what talking to him was like. The store would be out of Crown Royal and he'd be like "yeah, Canadians are bad at supply chain management. Everyone knows that. Part of their culture."

Just popping in to say that Maiden does, indeed, rule. There's literally no better feeling than suddenly realizing you are now cooler and less judgmental than your youthful self so you can unironically enjoy the good stuff, now.

When in doubt, just ask yourself WWNHK(WWH)D (what would nineties hardcore kids (who weren't hardline) do)?

It's sad to me how much I have to say to people "larger protests and smaller protests are often connected, not competing, both now and in movements throughout history." I feel like we've done a disservice to people by focusing only on the most dramatic parts of protest in our media and education.
January 29, 2026 at 5:26 PM
Practically every day of my life I find myself thinking "what do you think a protest is" for wildly different reasons and aimed at wildly different people.

Thinking through this, it's almost like "who was on which board and when?"
January 29, 2026 at 3:29 PM
And, truth be told, I suspect not as many of them as you'd think. My question is "who cut their teeth on various seedy message boards." I suspect a larger percentage of them are message board warriors than people who, you know, actually sat down and read theory.
