New #timber #tracing paper on power of combined methods.
Study led by @lauraboeschoten.bsky.social & Barbara RV Meyer-Sand for African timber shows combining methods boosts reliability of tracing. With 3 methods: 95% of samples traced back to <100 km of origin. 🌎🌐🍁

Combined genetic and chemical methods boost the precision of tracing illegal timber in Central Africa - Communications Earth & Environment
The origin of timber was correctly identified for 94% of samples in Central Africa, a high-risk region with low tracing accuracy to date, according to an analysis that combined genetic, stable isotope...

Super excited to share our new tracing paper!! This is the result of two PhDs and many amazing collaborators. Combining genetics, stable isotopes and multi-element analysis improves tracing results.

Excited to continue working on climate change effects on forests for the next two years!
Thrilled to welcome Dr Laura Boeschoten to the CLOVER project at UGent & the BCC. Her work explores how a climate overshoot could affect forests & the carbon cycle, helping to shape science-based resilience strategies. @lauraboeschoten.bsky.social

#ATBC2025 was about (re)connecting and diving into tree growth, drought and heat! Great to see so many friends and colleagues from all over the world together in Oaxaca.

Looking ahead: meeting our working group members for the first time! Excited to kick off this collaboration as part of my new postdoc at Gent University, which will start in October.
What are the risks of a climate "overshoot"? 🤔 Our new #CLOVER working group is tackling this, synthesising data & models to understand ecosystem impacts & inform policy. Discover: www.climatecentre.be/projects/syn... #ClimateScience #Overshoot |‪ lauraboeschoten.bsky.social (project coordin.)

Building a drought experiment in a tropical rainforest? Call 0800-LUQTEE for all tips & tricks!

Building "only" took us a year. Now we celebrate & see data coming in to study tree responses to drought! With @smithmartin.bsky.social @jesterkz.bsky.social @tanawood.bsky.social & many more not on bsky

Wrapping up our US train adventure, returning to NYC from visiting friends in Grand Junction, CO. The Rockies were breathtaking! Wish the US had high-speed trains—4 nights in 10 days on a train is a bit much. Still, so worth it! With my fav travel partner. :)

Early mornings this week to measure predawn water potential in our tropical drought experiment! #LUQ-TEE Super pumped this is coming together as we're aiming to understand how these trees will cope with future droughts.

1st post! Great to highlight my PD project:
LUQTEE, the Luquillo Throughfall Exclusion Experiment!

We study how trees cope under drought, with 3 experimental 20x20m drought plots in Puerto Rico. Point dendrometers, sapflow sensors, water potentials. And more! Pics from last week helping building.
