My mantra moving forward:

Focus your energy on doing things that add beauty and goodness to the world.

So all the cops on duty at protests support the protests then.

Highland cattle are famous for their ability to "disco nap". Normally these brief, efficient sleeps will last between three and twenty minutes, deploying a variety of objects as pillows, including moorland boulders, cars or any particularly large dog or sheep who happens to be nearby.
A highland cow having a little nap on a boulder on Dartmoor (ok, it was actually scratching its head)

Can’t celebrate that which undermines your actual religious worldview.

I also think there is a not insignificant % of the population who are too oblivious to even realize they know and care about people in their community who aren’t US citizens.

Oh my goodness, some of us live for a good peplum. YES. I can pull out my circa 2015-very-Jessica-Day tops that have been idling on hangers for years! 😂

Guess it’s been some negligent parenting on my part that my elementary schooler has ridden the metro many times.

This was one of the first books I ever read. I love October!

Good morning, beloved.

If you cannot see the light, try to be the light. Even if you fail, you’ll remember that we don’t have to settle for darkness.

Today is a great day to overcome evil with good.

The only war stories my maternal grandfather would tell were how he and some of his mates short-sheeted other soldiers’ bunks. My paternal grandfather never spoke a word about surviving Pearl Harbor.

War isn’t a video game.

Yeah, a friend once told me that she got asked if she was “here on a green card” almost weekly.

My childhood Walmart absolutely did smell like popcorn. It was inescapable.

Then we got a Walmart Supercenter, they ditched the little food station for a McDonalds, and it was the smell of over-fried grease that became inescapable.

Walmart is not nostalgic, no matter what it smelled like.

I can’t answer your question here directly, but if you aren’t using Hoopla or Libby for your daughter (or yourself), I can’t recommend them enough, especially since they’re free. My daughter uses an old iPad that doesn’t have a web browser installed on it.

Hoopla has a kids’ mode, Libby doesn’t.

To be very clear, the actual war against Christianity is the people who use the cross as a means to carry out the most heinous acts against the same people Christ would have left the flock to comfort

When my mom read it to me as a kid, she made that point. When I read it to my then 6yo, she made that point, too.

Also, my sister in law is convinced she has gastro issues as an adult because her grandma did stuff like this all throughout my sis in law’s childhood and she *was* often sickened. 😳

Last month I had to go through the behind-closed-doors CBP rooms upon reentering the country, and they had a poster displayed prominently that stated they have a zero-tolerance policy for their employees who are abusive.

Huh. If breaking the law disqualified Jesus, were the religious leaders right when they jumped on him for healing a man on the sabbath, or was it only governmental law, not religious law, Jesus had to uphold in order to be sinless?

It’s been an incredibly helpful framework for conservative evangelicals who want to denounce some elements of their political wing to soothe their own consciences without ruffling their fellow church members who’ve embraced wholesale radicalization.

Hair dryer with diffuser. Perfect for those post-storm days without power when the humidity’s at 80%.

You know, now that you say this, it’s made me realize there are an awful lot of bad men’s ministry vibes going around.

@josiahhawthorne.bsky.social you know bees.

Have you ever seen bears rip open the exterior wall of a house to get to a hive behind the siding?

Asking for my house.

That sounds fair, while at the same time Lincoln’s and FDR’s power grabs resulted in recognizable benefits for wide swaths of Americans, even as they were deeply unpopular with some others. What portion of Americans now are/will see tangible benefits in their own lives vs negative outcomes?

Today my cousin who isn’t American asked me what penalty there is when someone shoots a gun in the US but no one gets injured.

I realized all over again there’s just no way to make sense of any of this to people who live in countries where guns aren’t worshipped.
