CHARLIE AND MOUSE GET STUCK
(IN NOVEMBER 2024)

Illustration: Emily Hughes

**

“Mouse!” called Charlie. “Where are you?”

“I am here!” Mouse called back. “I am in the dog bed. And I am STUCK.”

Charlie found Mouse.

“You cannot be STUCK,” said Charlie. “It is time to set the table for dinner.”
Omg I almost just got scammed by the “Fulton County Police Department” for failing to appear for jury duty. They were SO sophisticated and complex. Basically a theater company. Be careful, people!

Very grateful to @matthewcwinner.bsky.social for this very thoughtful conversation about Jewish joy in this complex moment (among other things), and for just being a total mensch. He brings so much light to the world!

If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand”

Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.

First review is in for Shrinking Violet, and it's a ⭐ from Kirkus.

So very happy!

The entire US economy is propped up by a product so toxic and insidious that everyone has to go on a weekly scavenger hunt just to remove it from products they're already using.
heads up, gmail has a new setting automatically on that allows their a*i to be trained on your emails so make sure to turn off the 'Smart Feature' checkbox in your settings

Behind this important reversal is a member of the Coast Guard who saw what was happening and had the courage to leak it to the press. That person deserves serious praise.

Oh my heart.
The moment when 30 million American's received healthcare (2010) The moment when insurance companies had to start covering preexisting conditions, young adults could stay on their family's policy and I could trust that the small print couldn't screw me if I needed serious medical assistance. 🇺🇸

Oh, interesting question!
Bluesky hive mind! Do you happen to know any folk tales/fairy tales/fables where children are tricked into killing their mother? There's no shortage of wicked parents/stepparents in stories, but I've been wracking my brain & I can't think of an example where kids are hoodwinked into parental murder

I can’t help wondering about whether there’s a relationship between the Ossoff attacks this week (though he didn’t vote with the GOP), and MTG’s attempt to rebrand. A lot of bots out here stirring us up.

I’m supposed to fly out of ATL on Thursday for book events Friday to Monday.

Should I try to stick with my plan, or get in the car at the crack of dawn Thursday? #shutdown #booktour #ack!

I've slept two nights in a row without any sort of sleep aid. For me, this is unusual.

The one big difference? I stored my phone in another room.

Can I do it again? We'll see...

I have been actively watching contracts and surge funding over the last few days and what I would say to my friends in Baltimore is “be absolutely ready, right now.”
ICE poised to ramp up raids in Baltimore by Thanksgiving
The Trump administration has rush-ordered infrastructure to conduct raids, abduct residents, and detain people for months.

But god forbid a kid should pick out a library book without parental consent!
LAUSD, the second-largest school district in the country, has enabled chatbots on student devices without even notifying parents or providing any means of opting out.
I seem to remember whole congressional hearings about the terrible destructive force that is violence in video games and yet, there is a very strange quiet about an unregulated technology that coaches people to suicide.

1. "The Witch of Woodland" is an MG book by Laurel Snyder.

I have read quite a few books by Laurel Snyder because she is one of my favorite authors. Her books are so intelligent! Without being boring! The "Voice" in this book is great!
