Only time will tell if Judge Mehta's ruling in the search case will be an outlier for his judicial restraint, or the norm. But it's now clear that the hurdles to antitrust enforcement don't end with a monopoly ruling. Brinkema's ultimate decision will be telling. www.theverge.com/policy/79345...

The government has monopolization trials slated in cases against Live Nation, Amazon, and Apple, and a pending liability decision against Meta. But comments from both judges in the Google cases caution that winning a monopoly ruling is only half the battle. www.theverge.com/policy/79345...

The remedies trial over Google's ad tech monopoly wrapped today, and the judge's closing comments highlighted what could become a key obstacle for enforcers seeking tech break ups: judges don't seem to want to be the ones to do it. www.theverge.com/policy/79345...

Judge Mehta declines to grant the most ambitious of the DOJ's proposed remedies to break up Google and dismantle its search empire. But we're still in the middle of this very long fight www.theverge.com/policy/71708...

Covering these trials was a very full-circle moment having followed these cases since their investigation stages. But leaving the courthouse on the final day of Meta's case still felt far from the end of this story www.theverge.com/policy/69044...

Besides having Meta and Google's trials going on at the same time a few floors apart, it was also ironic to see TikTok brought in as a witness for the FTC in its case against Meta, after TikTok fought the government in the same courthouse over a ban of its app www.theverge.com/policy/69044...

Judge James Boasberg, who oversaw the six-week Meta trial, during a break one day dropped a scathing order against the Trump administration in the separate case he was assigned involving the Alien Enemies Act www.theverge.com/policy/69044...

Covering these trials was like living in a split screen — one day, FTC attorneys would be arguing their case against Meta, while the Trump administration made its case in a nearby room for why the president should be able to fire the FTC's commissioners www.theverge.com/policy/69044...

Here's my attempt to articulate the deeply weird experience of simultaneously covering two landmark tech antitrust trials in the same courthouse tasked with adjudicating some of the most controversial decisions of the second Trump presidency www.theverge.com/policy/69044...

Thank you to this subscriber for their sympathy — ICYMI the TikTok ban is delayed again, and no, the law still doesn't allow for this kind of extension 🤷‍♀️ www.theverge.com/news/688252/...
Comment on an article about the TikTok ban being paused again that says "I feel bad for Lauren.
The sheer amount of times she has to type this headline.
I'm sorry Lauren."

Breaking: The Trevor Project received a stop-work order last night on its contract with the national 988 suicide prevention hotline. The Trump administration is eliminating the option for LGBTQ callers to the hotline to press 3 and connect with someone who specializes in LGBTQ mental health.

It’s been a long day of bargaining with Vox Media, fighting hard to get a fair contract with better salaries, AI protections, the inclusion of the Dodo in our union, and much more. Come tomorrow, there’s only two days left in our contract — Vox Media, stop dragging your feet.

We have so far been unable to reach a deal with Vox Media that includes fair pay, AI protections, competitive benefits, improved severance and layoff procedures.

Should we not reach a fair contract tonight, our 250-member @VoxMediaUnion.bsky.social has overwhelmingly authorized a strike. ⏰ @vox.com

I caught up with the FCC's last Dem commissioner @agomezfcc.bsky.social as she tours the country warning of the admin's "ongoing campaign of censorship and control." It's a risky campaign given Trump has already broken SCOTUS precedent to fire the FTC's Democrats www.theverge.com/policy/68559...
FCC’s last Democratic commissioner doesn’t know why Trump hasn’t fired her yet
Surprisingly, she says she has a “good working relationship” with the FCC chair.
