I was honored to contribute to the "Inventar der Migrationsbegriffe," which contextualizes German terms about migration. I wrote about the history of the "Wirtschaftsflüchtling" [economic refugee]--as you'll see, a term that deserves further research!

unwittingly hiked to the estate of Philipp, Prince of Eulenburg-sadly the museum was closed, so I had to use the Kaiser's fountain to imagine myself into the scandal.

I'm writing another short piece on the history of the term "Wirtschaftsflüchtling/economic refugee," and hitting the digitized press archives. It's wild that the first time it appears in the FAZ it is to *criticize* deportation. This headline is from January 1966.

Patricia Hertel and Sasha Pack edited a special issue of the JMEH on "free movement" in postwar Europe, and I was delighted to contribute an article on the Italian organization FILEF. I also thought way too hard about how to translate the Treaty of Rome. doi.org/10.1177/1611...

when the neo-Nazis did it they invented the « Return Flight » airline, but the AFD have made themselves the airline. (of course, it’s the airlines you know and love that actually carry it out.)
In the city of Karlsruhe it seems like AfD members put these "deportation tickets" in the mailboxes of people with migration background. Among other things we read "only remigration can save Germany". The ominous date on the ticket corresponds to the election day, February 23d 2025.
