Here we go again! 🌋
7th this year and 10th in the last 3 years.
Looks like it is in the same place as the last ones.

When the weather is bad, the days are short and the northern lights are nowhere to be seen, we focus inward and enjoy the lights and the warmth inside. At Lava we have the most beautiful chandelier sculpture made by Marcos at Basalt Architects.
At Lava Centre we do our best to explain the ongoing eruption and the effect it has on key infrastructure in the area.
A the centre there are live streams from the eruption site as well as multiple interactive displays to help our guests understand what is happening.
🌋The lava flow has advanced beyond the primary road leading to Grindavík and has reached the primary geothermal pipeline supplying the towns across the Reykjanes Peninsula. These towns rely on geothermal water from this pipeline for heating. The gravity of the situation cannot be understated.❗
This morning after a short seismic activity an eruption started just north of the; municipality of Grindavík. In the afternoon a second fissure opened even closer to town and the lava steam has now entered town and engulfed a few houses. Our heart goes out to the people of Grindavík. #Grindavik
🧊🌊 Originally describing subglacial floods from Iceland's Vatnajökull, 'jökulhlaup' now refers to any sudden, large water release from glaciers. It's a fascinating blend of geology and linguistics! #Glaciology #LanguageOfScience
🌡️Jökulhlaups are often triggered by geothermal heat or volcanic eruptions under glaciers.
🧊Vatnajökull in Iceland is especially known for these dramatic events.
🗻What's a jökulhlaup? It's a unique glacial outburst flood, a term from Iceland now used worldwide in glaciology.
🌊These floods are massive releases of water from beneath glaciers. #Jökulhlaup #GlacialFlood
📰"A minor flood is underway at Grímsvatn, reducing pressure and increasing eruption chances," explains Magnús Tumi. Authorities remain vigilant as the situation evolves. #VolcanicActivity via mbl.is
📈A significant 4.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded at Grímsvötn this morning, the largest since measurements began, reports the Icelandic Meteorological Office. #EarthquakeUpdate #SeismicActivity
Prof. Magnús Tumi anticipates a volcanic eruption in the coming seasons at Grímsvötn. The exact timing remains uncertain, but geological signs are being closely observed. #VolcanoWatch
🌊The jökulhlaup is expected to be minor, originating from Skeiðarjökull and flowing into Gígjukvísl. Though small, this event is closely monitored due to its potential implications. #jökulhlaup #iceland
🧵🚨 BREAKING: A glacial run has begun at Grímsvötn, signalling a heightened possibility of a volcanic eruption, says Magnús Tumi Guðmundsson, a geophysics professor at the University of Iceland. 1/5

No worries! See you in Iceland ;) ❤️🌋
We’re just slowly ripping apart no explosion here :)
The eruption is close to the town of Grindavík and the Blue Lagoon but lava currently flowing away from major infrastructure.
An eruption started on the Reykjanes Peninsula on the eve of 18 December. The fissure is about 4 km (2.5 mi) long and more powerful than the previous three that erupted in ‘21, ‘22 and summer of ‘23.
Thankfully the lava is currently flowing away from the town of Grindavík. #icelandvolcano #iceland
