We are The Beef Review, a journal of literary feuds. We want your anger, grievances, pet peeves, your drama.

Part mid-life crisis, part bit-taken-too-far—the truth is we have Beef w/ the literary landscape, Beef w/ the world, & maybe Beef w/ you too.

When the community was fighting project blue in Tucson, I was thinking a lot about what it means to be from a post industrial city, whose population continues to suffer the devastating environmental, health, and safety effects of decades of industrialization and corporate greed. It breaks my heart.

I feel like most people don’t realize how much small art museums rely on funding like NEA grants for archival preservation resources (I definitely didn’t until a few years ago) — but the Trump admin does realize, and that’s the point. To attack anything that records and humanizes (and might oppose)
If the NEA goes, it's an extinction-level event for small art museums and non-profits.
Trump's complete elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts—coupled with devastating cuts to humanities and library services—exposes an alarming agenda aimed not at saving money, but at exerting cultural control.

Admiration for this reader of Charles Baxter's FIRST LIGHT, likely a physicist (like the protagonist) or an engineer, given their zeal for perfectly straight lines, who marked the hell out of this book, but then sold it? Maybe they died is more likely. Tx to @leahmensch.bsky.social for the find.
