Been playing around in Procreate lately. I love procreate's brushes but I don't think I'll ever get used to drawing on an ipad. I guess Photoshop will remain my go to program (at least until Procreate makes a Mac version) but it's still fun to mess about in.

Got asked how I make my reconstructions and I thought maybe others might be interested also so I put together my process. I don't pretend to be a skilled paleo artist, but I enjoy the process, deep diving into ancient species and seeing how my interpretations compare to real paleoart.
Photos used to reconstruct some thylacoleo skulls, using photos of skeletons and x-rays of koalas. Photos of koalas used to reconstruct the fur and skin of thylacoleo as well as anatomy of the front paw. Final part of the reconstruction of thylacoleo's full body and some sketches made from that reconstruction.

I couldn't make the bottom sketch look nice on its own so here they are all together. Not supper happy with that side reconstruction but it serves its purpose. Honestly couldn't figure out the claw and the articles I wanted to read were behind a pay wall. =/

It's thylacoleo! I had a LOT of thoughts reconstructing this thing, but the main ones were 1) I had no idea koalas were the closest relative and 2) I must be doing something wrong because very few reconstructions look like this.
Koala ears were just for fun.
