Since self-publishing my first novel in September, I’ve celebrated all the milestones—first sale, first review, first signed-copy request (admittedly, from family). But today I unlocked the *true* indie-author achievement: my first book-club scam solicitation.

Package never showed today. Delivery driver said he arrived and ‘concluded no one lives at this address.’ Look, I know I didn’t shovel the powdery 2.5 inches of powder off my enormous driveway, and yes, my house leans toward ‘abandoned forest cabin chic,’ but either way: Thanks, Dad!

It’s snowing in my little northern Maine village. I have a metal roof, which is great because the snow slides right off in storms. It’s less great because the snow slides right off in storms, making thump-thump noises that sound exactly like a cartoon monster sneaking around under the eaves.

I’ve gotten hooked on those ‘Hero Lawn Care Rescues Abandoned Yard’ super-sped-up videos. They always tease: ‘You’ll never guess what the grass was hiding.’ I’m still waiting for it to be an alligator, a portal to a fae realm, or Richard III’s lost grave. It’s always just… sidewalk pavers.

My little dark fantasy novel Kin of Fae: The Returned Child is free on Kindle this week for a limited time. It’s dark folklore, Maine woods, and monsters with manners (sometimes).
If that sounds like your kind of strange, brew up something warm and come meet the fae.📖 www.amazon.com/Kin-Fae-Book...

Rejoice, fellow owners of unaesthetic necks: scarf-by-day season has arrived in northern Maine!

I've officially entered my coke-bottle lenses era. Please, no questions at this difficult time.

Back from my eye exam: apparently, we’re buckling up for early-onset macular degeneration. Tried to get the optimist to call it ‘young onset,’ but no—he stuck firmly to 'early.'

Called it quits on the final 1,000 pages. Life’s too short. Indie fantasy folks—got a new release that could use an honest review? Drop your rec; my Kindle is hungry. #IndieAuthor #FantasyBooks #AmReading #BookReview #IndieFantasy

Confession: I’m 67% through a 9-book Nobel Prize awarded saga and considering a DNF. Do you ever quit a series 2/3rds through? Do you ever feel really guilty about it if you loved the first three books?

Author page setup required ID verification. Web cam? Blurry. Phone photo? Barcode rejected. Ended up dusting off my ancient scanner and updating drivers. A fragment of my Gen X soul just withered into the void.

Copy edits: 11,000 words slain in battle. The survivors? Leaner, meaner, and ready for publication.

This drought is wrecking my dust allergy. Inside me are two wolves. They’ve unionized. Their demands: Benadryl and a nap.

Krikey. 5e, the third edition I've played, is now 11 years old. Which means I am… I guess, a lich at this point? Please send potions of restoration.

A few years ago, I traded Charlotte’s skyline for the woods of northern Maine where I grew up. Out back, I’ve been carving out a small cottage garden. In August, it gives me sunflowers.

Pet peeve: new colleagues join a conference call and don’t say their name. “Hi, I’m here from Marketing.” Great, thanks Mister Mxyzptlk, super easy to address you now.

Always thought that my first-ever social media post would be an issue meriting much internal reflection. I was wrong. Here's mine: I'm refinishing some furniture for my mom, just went out into the garage for ten seconds, and came back onto a work call accidentally high as a kite.
