A bit of clarity on the military's oaths, and what they mean in the context of "illegal orders". Quick read, but important. Nichols is right: everyone should read it.
This article is from @markhertling.bsky.social - a retired three-star Army general - and everyone should read it.

Every time I feel the slightest temptation to use AI, I think of a huge coal-fired power plant firing up and blasting huge clouds of smoke and ash into a blue sky... And I write something instead.
no sorry you’re right this technology is absolutely worth depleting our water supply

"the chief executive of a gold-refining company presented [Trump] with a 2-pound gold bar engraved with 45 and 47…"

I suppose "NOT AN EMOLUMENT, FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY" was engraved on the back.

Samwise's ears still droop like a puppy's, even though he's a year and a half old. Not 'normal' for a Corgi, but not unknown. We accept it; it's cute, he's The Eternal Puppy (and acts it).
But lately...his ears are up on occasion.
Could it be...The Change?

My wife comes home from a well-deserved vacation in Ireland tomorrow. I don't think we've been apart this long since maybe 2005, when I went on a press tour of Bavarian breweries. I sure do miss her.

First snow in the Valley today. Corgis romped, then we went up on the ridge to check a friend's house (he's away, wanted to be sure his power was on after maintenance). Corgis romped again in the woods, & we're home and warm. Podcast editing day for me.

If I can mail my IRS return at the Philadelphia PO at 10pm on 4/15 & not face any late penalty, a ballot postmarked on Election Day shouldn't be a problem. Just more voter suppression bullshit.

Wonder!
Another species no longer on the global Endangered list:
Humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae).

A few decades after a Star Trek movie where the central conflict was the total extinction of the humpback, their numbers are rising fast enough to put them at "Least Concern" on the IUCN Red List.

Once again, I am begging Hollywood to make a Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang movie based on the actual book, which goes incredibly hard; race car that unexpectedly flies, hovers, has tracking radar; mobsters w/guns & mean names; exploding caves; Parisian fudge! Could be a fantastic movie. PLEASE!
