The book for this season was very happy to put River on the backburner. It was always going to be a big challenge to figure out what to do with him this year.
Will Smith & the writers really do a great job shoring up the undramatic parts of the books.

Definitely a big choice to stop hiding it and put him in short-sleeve shirts for the first time! And have him lifting weights in his office to explain the change.

This is a weird poll because of the word ‘blame’. I think the Dems have a lot of agency in causing a shutdown, but I support what they’re doing, and think the Rs unfairly backed them into their position. How would I answer the poll?

I get that's what you're trying to do, and that adhering to Strunk and White is a bitch, but in this one case at least, it's on you, and I think you need to give your critics some grace

To be fair, quotation marks grammatically unnecessary in what you wrote. You're not directly quoting anyone, but summarizing an argument. So the reader is not wrong to wonder why you added them, and assume sarcasm rather than sloppiness.
