He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

📚 I'm trying this accountability thing where I don't waive my overdue fines myself anymore. I go to the circulation desk in the hopes that the shame of having them waive fines will spur me to, you know, turn in a book sometimes.

Good stuff from this week:

1. Helped a nation draft its AI data sovereignty statement

2. My county has literal semi truckloads of free turkeys for all

3. Last Thursday I taught 200 children how to research Revolution, which they do as extra work because the children yearn for the guillotines

Instead of shopping now, I just add stuff to an Amazon Wish List. It's like the satisfaction of an impulse purchase, but much cheaper and doesn't take up space! It's pathetic how many miniature libraries I have on here. www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/...

Glad I’m not at a show barn. I mean, I’m always glad not to be at a show barn - I’m much more of a working cowgirl type. But this EHV outbreak should lead every barn to quarantine (no ins or outs) for the next two months. Our barn is okay and is on lockdown.

One of the worst things about being sick for a very busy person is that my inbox is insane. Relentless demands for this or that. I feel like I can’t even take a day to knock out a cold.

I need a week’s vacation, that’s what. Just a week where I can be healthy and do chores.

New post today. When public information changes or books disappear from shelves, the gaps show up in AI tools. I explain how this affects students and share ready-to-use lessons for elementary and secondary classrooms. #aied #ai #TLSky open.substack.com/pub/aischool...
The Quiet Collapse of Information Access
How disappearing federal support, shrinking databases, and uneven digitization limit what students and AI can access.

Challenging someone’s firsthand story of oppression because it’s not in the news yet is pretty shitty behavior. Lots of stuff happens that doesn’t make the news. Most stuff that happens doesn’t make the news, in fact.

I love baseball when it is both bad and weird. So, I love the Colorado Rockies. Even when they are successful, it is only because they have failed so hard that they wind up making a 180 into success. Today, I realize that it is because I like irrationality more than anything else.
The Colorado Rockies Cannot, and Must Not, Be Normal
The Rockies tried to make a conventional hire, but they couldn’t quite do it. Instead, they stayed weird.

Faculty: Oh, so you’re why I keep getting essays about hippo crackheads.

Me: Yeah ‘cause I can’t talk about the Holy Prepuce to freshmen.

Faculty: …the what?

Me: I’m gonna let Wikipedia explain that one.

There should be a Scholastic Book Fair for grown ups that comes to our jobs, and we skip PE or art class to go browse the goods. Jobs should also have PE and art class.

I asked Claude to pick 6 frames of a DAPL documentary out of 12 pre-selected frames. I asked it to choose these frames according to illustration of technique.

Claude of course failed, and hallucinated several frames about "war paint" and "tipis" based solely on the term "Native American."

Immune system: I’m about to start some nonsense.

Me, using teacher voice: Absolutely not. You sit right down in your chair and do your work right now.

Immune system: Yes ma’am. (plots to ruin Thanksgiving week)

📚 Library instruction is just more fun with the health profession students.

"As we can see, heroin is always bad for babies."

SNAP outage continues. Today I bought meat packets, and then a huge case of Takis because the kids love Takis.

I have also found out my mother is on this crusade in her state, and might have found a solution for the state to extend their SNAP funding.

Remember in his first term, when Teen Vogue came for him? Now, it’s People Magazine? In his third term it’s gonna be that rural truck stop newspaper that lists tractors for sale, and they’re gonna be merciless.
someone invited people magazine to the kitchen and they brought their own knives

SNAP is now suspended. Research the private equity companies and billionaires who currently own controlling shares in Funko Pop. Then, if you decide that maybe you don’t need that new Funko Pop after all, spend the same money on adult diapers and donate them to your local food bank.
