The pick stitching was also done by hand. Pick stitching is a way to finish the edge of a coat to stop it from puffing up or rolling to the wrong side. This can be done by hand or machine. Since the H&M overcoat lacks pick stitching, I would be concerned about the edge curling.

Let's move up in price. This Whitcomb & Shaftsbury overcoat is £4,700 (or $6,185). For that, you get a fully bespoke, handmade overcoat made from 30oz fabric (beefy!)

This coat takes 70 - 80 hours to make. W&S takes more time on perfecting the pattern than H&M spends on making their entire coat.

If you care about how things were made, not just how they look, then this connects you to an old craft tradition. Harris Tweed originated in the early 19th century as a home industry when crofters wove cloth by hand for their own use and for local exchange.

If you care about US manufacturing, then you'll be glad to hear the coat was cut and sewn in Rochester, NY at a company that has been around since 1899. This is a unionized workforce with immigrants from around the world, some of whom have been with the factory for 50+ years.

... to this California Arts overcoat ($750) made from a stiffer 100% wool. The shoulder line is straighter; the coat hangs better. The California Arts coat is a more affordable alternative to Fear of God ($2,500), but once you cheap out too much, it's hard to get it to look right.

Not a single person will be reimbursed for the damage done by ICE in Chicago.
Not a single person will be offered therapy to deal with the trauma of the raids.
Not a single right will be restored.
Not a single family will be unbroken.
Not a single child left unscarred.

This is America.

what a difficult decision!!

if you want to understand tailoring, you only need to watch mid-century movies, when actors were dressed by tailors, not brands. in the 1944 film cover girl, gene kelly's suit drapes beautifully, moving with him, not against him. collar stays on his neck, even as he dances.
