At Cottontail Acres: this yellow-breasted chat was not very chatty. They seem to really like hanging out in the darkest corner of the yard.

At Cottontail Acres: we've had quail on the property every day since April 29 - more than five months! They arrive in the morning, hang out all day, then wander off somewhere around sunset. This has never happened in previous years.

At Cottontail Acres: randomness from the week - turkey vulture catching the sunrise, Anna's hummingbird on a stick, immature white-crowned sparrow, Eurasian starling claiming its territory.

At Cottontail Acres: this white-tailed antelope ground squirrel appeared in the yard earlier this week. We've had a couple over the years that have stayed for a few weeks but not this one; we haven't seen him since.

Above Cottontail Acres: about 50 turkey vultures flew in from the east at sunset last night and roosted in the neighborhood. At sunrise this morning they circled for about 15 minutes before heading back east.

At Cottontail Acres: most mornings the Merlin ID app tells me there are 4 or 5 species of sparrow around. I can often hear them but can't spot them. But I did catch this sagebrush/Bell's (I can't tell the difference). And the photo also works for #BlueSkyMonday so: bonus!
