Hi #portfolioday ! I'm Liiga and I do freelance illustration.
My focus is on dreamlike imagery and spells, though I'm no stranger to characters and the occasional scenery.

I've done work for Magic: The Gathering, Android:Netrunner, Bella Sara etc.

Illustration for the card "Magma Opus" shows a giant spell in the shape of an elephant that aggressively combines ice and fire magic. Tonight is the opening of Magic: The Gathering in Miniature III at Gallery Nucleus, organized by the amazing @donnycaltrider.bsky.social !

I just learned that all three of my contributions found a home during the early access and the fuzzies couldn't be warmer 💖
An itty bitty painting of Elspeth, the planeswalker from Magic: The Gathering, as a white mouse clad in silver armor with golden decorations. She's wearing a white cape and holding a spear that took more than one try to get to look right. Behind her, white sweet peas are arranged in the shape of wings (because Elspeth is an angel) and she's making friends with an orange butterfly. This is on the back of my Swords to Plowshares artist proof, which also involves sweet peas. Pencil for scale! An acrylic painting on the back of a Magic: The Gathering artist proof of "Enduring Innocence", 6.3x8.8cm in size. The "droplets" are raised a bit above the surface - though not too much - and they're made by using teensy tiny glass beads as 'seeds' for volume, and built upon with heavy gel and many, many layers of a shiny medium. There's also symbolism to it that calls for some lore. Tamiyo - like most planeswalkers - has a long and interesting life, but it comes to a tragic end soon after she's compleated by the Phyrexians, when she purposefully allows her friend the Wanderer to kill her in battle. However, her story doesn't end there, as a part of her spirit (a shade) is captured in a memory scroll which eventually ends up on the Duskmourn plane - which is the set that the "Enduring Innocence" belongs to. While Tamiyo's adoptive son Nashi goes to Duskmourn to find her, the shade is continuously drained of her memories by the plane's ruling demon's cultists. When she is found all that's left and the only thing that's allowed her to persist is her love for him. In the end, she asks to be released into the Blind Eternities, and Nashi honors the request. So with that context, I wanted to show Tamiyo with a loving and peaceful expression as her memory fades away into little droplets - maybe Nashi's tears. The flowers are spider lilies since their symbolism is tied to death, remembrance and transformation. They're yellow to go with the "Enduring Innocence" (well and also because yellow and blue together are nice to look at.) Some of the spellery is dripping down by her feet and sprouting behind her, gently lifting her into the air. Painted in acrylics (the shading on her eyelids just about did me in) with pencil for scale. I love this one for many reasons. The crying sunflower Ivys are so preciously horrific ♥️😭♥️
DC Comic character Poison Ivy is serving a moldy 1950's style dinner party. All the guests, which includes Harley Quinn, are smiling widely and are covered in fungal growths. The whole home around them has surreal nightmarish elements like crying sunflowers with Ivy's face on them, Ivy cooking her own head on a small television in the back, and a giant platter of Ivy's decaying head as the centerpiece.

One of my cards for Magic's upcoming Strixhaven set got spoiled early, so I get to show it off!

As you might imagine this was a real interesting assignment, with the brief full of infinity, fractals and spirals.
A digital painting of a pleasant park on Quandrix campus full of carefully maintained grass, water sculptures, tall trees and a physics defying reality shift causing the whole thing to spiral into infinite spiraling fractals and then maybe a few more loops for a good measure. In the foreground there are three figures, possibly two students and a professor. In the middle background there are three figures, possibly three students. In the further background there are three figures, possibly... A close up of the three foreground figures. The brief didn't say anything about who might be enjoying the scenery, so I in turn enjoyed picking a trio with very different profiles and designing their outfits in line with the Quandrix college dress style. A close up of the most prominent set of spirals because I wanted to show off the textures. A close up of the upper right area, 'cause this particular bunch of trees is my favorite. I spent a longer than necessary amount of time adding fun, flowing patterns to the lawns and walkways because it felt appropriate and made the colors more interesting.

My most hornedest - Myntasha ✨🦌✨
Myntasha, Honored One for Magic: The Gathering 2019 Heroes of the Realm. A magical deer with crystal horns is formed through ancestral spirits converging from fairy stones amidst a snowy forest. The scene is lit by the moon shining through the gaps between pine branches above the deer's head, and the moonlight casts rainbows upon the snow.

Nissa! This is my third artist proof for Magic: The Gathering in Miniature III ( www.hipstersofthecoast.com/2025/10/anno... ). Painted in acrylics (pencil for scale) and, naturally, involving shinies (thus the second photo). 🎨
It's on the back of a Genesis Wave proof.

Painted in acrylics (the shading on her eyelids just about did me in) with pencil for scale. There are also little golden details on the motes, the staff and the metallic details on her midsection. Oh yeah and there's a bit of green shine on her face markings, too.
