As a teacher educator, for the past few years I have "wrestled" (sorry) with suggesting students pursue a career in education (my career for more than three decades). No longer. I cannot with good conscience recommend teaching as a career.

My dad talks about growing up as a kid in NYC. About being on the corner and waiting to cross. He'd turn to the closest adult and say, "Hey, mister, can you cross me? Hey, lady, can you cross me?" Something so simple. Nostalgia is simple that way.

But there will be plenty of lapdogs.

As an English professor & teacher educator, I feel this sense of guilt for what voters don’t seem to know or have not learned.
