I love a good mystery. The original Strangers movies didn't reveal who the killers were or motivation. They went out of their way to obscure the faces. Even the blonde was barely seen.
The reboot said fuck that they need backstory. I think that goes against the original.

Watching The Strangers Chapter 1 and reading about the trilogy, I get the feeling that they didn’t like the sequel and wanted to lean into the original (for better or worse). The original isn't bad, but it's also a bleak ending.
