there is also a passion project that i wanna do, a music video that is a full instrumental cover made by me, with vocals

unless i come up with something else, this is where i want to make my commitment

i made this sort of a new year's resolution that i would make one song per month, and so far i have made 9 of them (one is done, but yet to be released)

but for now it doesn't really matter if i reach 12 songs this year or not, because i'm already happy with the releases i've done so far

with the song's release, i noticed that the project files for the next four wips i made at the end of summer were lost.

i have the audio files backed up however, this would only mean that i have to recreate those wips purely by ear.

This is my third piece that has space as its theme in some way. Maybe space is the type of place where I can find some sense of comfort and solitude. Who knows.

This piece turned out great, and I am happy with it. I just hoped I didn't have those editing issues in the first place, so much untapped potential. But sometimes I gotta come into terms with these sort of things.

My favorite tactic for making something look like VHS is to add three layers of the video on top of each other and slightly separate them. I also give each layer a different color correction and blur.

This is what I settled with in order to keep my workflow enjoyable amidst of performance issues.

My main editing tool DaVinci Resolve refused to start, so I had to learn a different pipeline with Kdenlive. The program itself looks nice, somewhat akin to Sony Vegas.

But I ran into problems with its performance, I didn't need to add too many effects until the video preview started to lag.

Multiple factors forced me to work with limitations. Blender kept crashing for one. I also made the animation way too complicated to make it into a looping one. So I decided to stop midway through and stretch the existing animation to make it last for the entirety of the song.

I then used a black & white shader to define shadows and lit up parts of the model. It gave this cool nongradual effect of shadow changing locations as the model keeps rotating.

I was happy with the result, it turned out to be rather close to the overall drawing style. I should consider combining the 2D and 3D artstyles in a future piece, that stuff is always fun to look at.

Just like with starting out with digital art and drawing, I was a little too worried about the end result. But fortunately enough that went away rather quickly.

I never modeled anything from scratch beyond spheres which I used for making visuals for 'dynamis', so this offered an ample chance to come up with something 3D I can call my own for once. I modeled my character following this tutorial.

Original idea was to make this into a GBA'ish, 1-bit pixel slideshow of random photos, but as time went on I picked up interest towards making something in Blender instead.

instances are subject to change, but the idea is now out there. i'll update if any changes happen.

i'll still be posting on bsky until i believe it's time to go elsewhere. for now i'll try using both bsky and mastodon for making posts.

i'll be slowly ending my break. "adrift" currently lacks visuals, so i'll make those first and then get back to the drawing board. had an idea of making something in blender this time around.

stay tuned!

had a lot of fun drawing this weekend, nothing but good times. and a tired arm
