Finished #StarWarsRebels again, and it's every bit as deep and proudly antifacist as Andor was later, if much more hopeful.

But keep dismissing it as just a kids' show.

And then, don't blame them for teasing you with something that was never there in their story.

You're allowed to want something different. But when someone told you they were making hamburgers, don't complain when dinner is served that you were promised pasta.

You can theorize, you can fantasize, you can draw your own interpretations from fiction. But I beg you to also pay attention to what the author is trying to convey, especially when they're not even remotely trying to obscure it.

If you didn't notice that, a theme that is so broadly painted on screen, so much that they actually say it out loud in character, then you absolutely lack reading comprehension or screen literacy. And I don't know how to help you.

(+)
lordmagnusen.bsky.social
then you've seen that the theme of the first big arc of his DCU (which he calls Gods and Monsters) is about a certain portion of humanity (Waller, Luthor, Flag) absolutely hating and distrusting metahumans and other costumed folks. It doesn't matter if they're supposed to he heroes or villains.

Because even if you don't know what the planet Salvation means in the comics (and if even if you do, but Gunn decides to do it differently, like with Vigilante or Checkmate), if you saw Superman and this season of Vigilante (plus Creature Commandos),

Simultaneously, he writes an arc for Peacemaker and the rest of the cast along the season, ending it in the logical places for the show, as well as using the story to set up the next steps of the wider DCU.

(And being Gunn, you can't complain about him using music heavily, particularly when he's actually using the music for character emotional beats.)

(+)
lordmagnusen.bsky.social
Gunn not only manages to give us a lived-in DCU from the start in Superman (through the opening text and the movie itself), he also invests in the characters emotionally, both in the movie and in this show.

(+)
lordmagnusen.bsky.social
Marvel many times seemed, to some people, to use projects mostly to set up future storylines, and DC rushed introducing characters and setting up the shared universe, without investing emotionally into the characters. They also exploited cameos and secret character reveals.

(+)
lordmagnusen.bsky.social
Gunn is not only making his characters evolve and grow through emotional experiences, he's also doing almost the exact opposite of what people have criticized Marvel And the previous DCEU for doing.

(+)
lordmagnusen.bsky.social
and particularly after the previous episode being a climax, you were not paying attention. This episode was never going to be about Brainiac invading Earth or anything like that.

(+)
lordmagnusen.bsky.social
If you were expecting a big multiversal reveal (even though it's actually there) after how they used Earth "X" (it's not even Earth X, guys, just another naz1 dimension) to explore Chris's emotional journey,

MILD PEACEMAKER S2 FINALE SPOILERS

People actually disappointed by the tone of the finale and what happened in it did not pay attention to the season. Or they do not understand what they watch.
