It seems bluesky is more dead than Twitter/X. I still have 17.8K lovely interactive followers on X. Over 400 followers on bluesky yet most have no interest in medieval Irish church history or in showing their appreciation. I have better things to do so will have another break from bluesky.

29 Sept: Feast Day of St Sedrach & his relics, possibly marking their arrival at Tamlachta/ #Tallaght, #Dublin (Prof Elva Johnston). Described "modest, bashful, excellent" in MartG. Founded by St Máel Ruain (d. 792). Inspiration for Céli Dé/Culdees. Centre of learning. Site of St Maelruain's CoI.

Kells Priory • Kilkenny

From a distance, Kells Priory has the appearance of a large castle with high walls and strong towers, but despite its military appearance, it was a place of prayer.

The priory was founded in around c.1193 for the Augustinian canons.

28 Sept: Translation of St Disibod's Relics. This is referred to in AD 1143. His relics were placed in a marble coffin, behind the high altar.

28 Sept: Feast of St Dairi the Widow. In Irish, widow, 'baintreach', means 'a woman who ploughs', because in the absence of her husband a widow is forced to undertake this arduous work for herself (Omnium Sanctorum Hiberniae)!? Not the only female saint who did manual labour! e.g. St Brigid farmed!

28 Sept: Feast Day of Ss Díarmait mac Lucharid & unknown Gilla. St Díarmait was bishop of Cluain Finn-Aighne. O'Hanlon suggested it was at Fidhnacha in West Connacht where great battle fought in 1094; Fidnach Maige Réin/ #Fenagh, Co. #Leitrim. Monastery there founded by St Caillín in 5th C.
