hdh fjdj fucking hell im sorry, i misread the entire first sentance and didnt realize it was a question from someone else, and then my comprehension didn't recover from there. Dyslexia hit me bad on this one. have some informative sources i guess lol
lovequeer.bsky.social
The simplest definition i can give is that otherkin are those who experience being nonhuman, either instead of or in addition to human.
otherkin.net and otherkin.wiki are good sources to begin with

And fwiw I felt a lot of my earliest experiences of species dysphoria as being jealous of my childhood dog and upset that I couldnt move like she did. thats a possible manifestation of it. Its up to you if it feels dysphoric or not though, and you can relieve the feelings the same way regardless.
lovequeer.bsky.social
Thats entirely within the realm of therianthropy and always has been. The culture on this site, and to some extent in general, puts dysphoria very front and center, but it's not something everyone feels, nor a defining feature of therianthropes. Check this out: m.tapas.io/episode/293008

Uploaded my Othercon 2025 lecture "No Gods, No Kings, No Greymuzzles: Building Alterhuman Community" to my YouTube, as I realized it hasn't yet been uploaded to the con YT; this video includes the Discord commentary, presented slides, and after-lecture Q&A.

No youre fine! I appreciate the clarification, and its a topic not very suited to a character limit like this xD i have seen what you're talking about, now that you clarify, but it depends on what circle im in for sure.
lovequeer.bsky.social
i write the most pretentious fucking shit and i know i do. i will not apologize but i will laugh at myself about it www
lovequeer.bsky.social
i also add that "things humans do/ways humans inherently are" and arguably even the act of dividing sharply and essentialistically between humans and nonhumans is a problem of colonialism, and I agree ppl seem to misplace their anger wrt that. It just depends what group of therians youre talking to.
lovequeer.bsky.social
I mean, its been a community since the 90s xD Many different communities, at that. I promise its not just some West Coast coyotes lol, you just gotta know where to look.
lovequeer.bsky.social
I mean, I struggle to relate to what you're saying because yea, humans are animals. And therians are marked by feeling like *nonhuman* animals. By doing things that our society has decided humans do not do. But i agree that things like "humanity is evil and im different bc im a therian" r unhelpful
lovequeer.bsky.social
Mostly that it betrays a real ignorance and lack of solidarity-mindset when it comes to the struggles of trans ppl and disabled cyborgs in accessing care, being allowed body autonomy, not having our body parts repossessed, post-operative pain/complication, + repair/replacing mechanical body parts.
lovequeer.bsky.social
Tbh as a bigender cripple who's had severe species dysphoria, i have some Opinions about the "oh, trans ppl can transition, so why cant we give otherkin tails and horns?" sentiment ive seen over and over in nonhuman spaces. Way bigger than tweet length. Gonna write about it at length soonish.

Adding information about species dysphoria and how some of us modify our bodies, and many develop lifestyles and hobbies that help us express ourselves would also be relevant. And Very Importantly: That it cant be "converted" out of a person, just like gender/sexuality.
lovequeer.bsky.social
I think also that because this is really mostly applicable to therians, it would be nice to expand it to include more otherkin stuff abt elves, angels, faeries, etc and maybe even objectkin and conceptkin? Trying to expand this to include alterhumans broadly would be a lot tho, so maybe a rename?
lovequeer.bsky.social
Seconding this , unfortunately the misconception that alterhuman = nonhuman has erased a lot of different experiences from view and made people forget that plurality is also included along with many other potentially human alterhumanities and many other independant groups.
lovequeer.bsky.social
Alt+H did a mental health pamphlet for professionals thats also worth passing on! A copy exists on Alterhuman Archive, its free to print and distribute, and it encompasses as much of the alterhuman umbrella as it can, including fictionfolk and plurality.
lovequeer.bsky.social
Nonhuman National Park is good, but small and not therian focused nor old :V Werelist is .. well, the weres who are still there have been there since the aughties and are mostly just chit chatting at this point. Might as well be an archive.
lovequeer.bsky.social
I think quadrobics and the various groups into it are a neat topic, but the writing was all over the place and I cant tell what the point of the article was. Was it about therians? Paleo and Primal lifestyle grifters? Japanese quadrobics athletes? The variety of groups? Pick a direction next time.

Happy publication day to Melissa Leach & James Fairhead for 'Naturekind'! It introduces a new paradigm for human & nonhuman communication from @princetonupress.bsky.social

Innovative & provocative, as reviewer @erleellis.bsky.social says,"nature is talking, & people need to listen"

Speciesqueer Pride Flag

The colours of the flag take inspiration from both the Genderqueer flag, by @marilynroxie.bsky.social (2011), and the Nonhuman Unity flag, by @coyote.tel (2020).

The sinusoidal geometry of the flag references the shape of the DNA double helix.

This design is free for use.
Speciesqueer Pride Flag.

The flag has a 3:2 aspect ratio. It has 3 colours: green at the top, purple at the bottom, and white in the center. The green and purple meet on the left and right sides of the the flag, along the shape formed by two sinusoidal lines that trace horizontally across the flag, referencing the shape of the DNA double helix, and visually suggesting mutual overlap. In the center, the aperture between the two sinusoidal lines is coloured white.

Oh neat, i like the unique and irregular shape implying a queerness and xeninity (not as in gender but as in otherness) in flag design as well, the way diagonals have been used in Xenic and Alterhuman flags to skew the direction of the extremely common horizontal/smetimes vertical bars in othr flags
