Exceptionally average. Cautiously pessimistic. Sharp as a Nerf™ ball.

Seems like there are never enough shots of Mahmes doing nothing on the sidelines. He's so amazing to watch chewing on his mouthguard.

After the 'Heat' high, thought LA heist movie AMBULANCE would be methadone. But even with all the handheld cameras, too close close-ups, gun fire, needlessly complicated drone shots, and more car chases than the Blues Brothers, the movie is inert, with, at best, 2-d characters. Michael Bay, y'all.

Mind firmly at off tonight. I need a new season of Reacher, Cross, or Dept. Q. right now.

Making mushroom risotto tonight. As comfort food.
As of right now, there's an excavator ripping out trees next door. I know we need more housing. Doesn't mean I'm not sad I'm losing my view.

Watched FRENCH LOVER. 30 minutes too long and relatively conventional, but Omar Sy is as charming as ever, and Sara Giraudeau brings to whole thing to life (and gets to wear the most godawful hilarious dress). Sure, my expectations were not high, but it was better and more fun than expected.

If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Finished WRECK by Catherine Newman. A book that reminds us that while happiness is always precarious and transitory, it is no less a really real human emotion for that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Starting WRECK by Catherine Newman. Hoping for the joy I felt when I read Sandwich.

3 random takes from watching HEAT for the first time:
1- it's a psychological drama
2- gimme analog, street level, real(ish)-time shots. No CGI, slow-mo, elaborate crane/drone shots. When windshields explode, windshields explode.
3- I want DeNiro's sunglasses
Probably watching HEAT tonight. First time. But don't judge. In 1995, my son turned 3 and I was working like a beaver on meth.

Niche comment: The way DeNiro plays the bank robber in 'HEAT' is how Donald Westlake's Parker should be played.
