This, dear friends, has been my favourite part so far of the training for my race on Saturday. It's called TAPERING. The running not so much, but the TAPERING has been great.

Feels funny on a Sunday night not to be on the Eurostar for my old commute to Paris, but in compensation the CHRISTMAS CAKE is made.
November 23, 2025 at 5:39 PM
With your much-needed friendly encouragement, dear followers, I've finally made it to the finish line of the most tremendously ambitious project I've yet worked on.

Can't wait to show it to you on BBC Two and PBS, but meanwhile: let the Christmas-cake-making begin 😃

Glamour and debauchery at Hampton Court Palace. And not just in the curators' team 😉 lucyworsley.substack.com/p/my-favouri...
My favourite painting at Hampton Court
It's a heady mixture of fantasy and foreboding

We've been working strange hours at the Doge's Palace, very early and very late to avoid the visitors. Which has meant some time off in Venice! I've used mine to play hide and seek in the giardini

She doesn't know it yet, but one lucky lady among my friends is getting this HOT PRIESTS calendar for Christmas. Complete 'with historical notes about the Vatican.'

Male colleague:

'They're just slippers, what are you ladies so excited about?'

Us:

'But they're slippers in PINK VELVET, for sale in a beautiful shop in VENICE.'

Tomorrow, dear friends, at very long last, I'll finally be able to tell you what this project was. Finished a couple of days ago, and here's the burial ground in October to round things off.

This week I ate my last splendid roast beef lunch at Devon's splendid Burgh Island Hotel of 2025. But I'll be back in 2026. Maybe you'd like to come on an Agatha Christie holiday with me next year?

A family member made me a sandwich with cheese, grated carrot and peanuts.

Is that UNACCEPTABLE or is it YUMMY?

Is it EVIL or is it GENIUS?

I can't decide.

(I hope she doesn't read this and think 'how ungrateful, that's the last time I'm making Lucy a sandwich.')
