To quote a friend, each Pokemon game usually has a stretch they dub "the trek" (I'm paraphrasing). Basically the longest part of the game between badges.

Sad to say that this is that part and Kalos kinda teases a much grander trek than it ends up delivering between badges 1 and 2 and badges 2-8
