It provided extensive resources for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)—ultimately turning ICE into the largest federal law enforcement agency. But these increases do not address the root causes of the issues that surround immigration in the US. They don’t address immigration back logs or our outdated system. Expanding surveillance and detentions echoes failed strategies from our darkest moments in history. And it’s going to disproportionately harm immigrants, families, and communities of color."
