This is the way to combat the National Guard and ICE- with frivolity. They're expecting (and want) aggression to make their point and so they can cosplay as big boys. Don't give it to them. Give them dancing inflatable costumes, the Cha-Cha slide, and peaceful protest.

4. I think it needed a few trims to make it better. Get rid of the Jefferson Davis subplot. Obviously, I'm not an expert, but I'm looking at this with a writer's eye. I still like it, I still applaud it, but I wanted to love it as much as I loved MIDSOMMAR.

3. Don't get me wrong, it's a good film. But it's SO much for 2.5 hours. Aster takes the intensity of the first act of BEAU IS AFRAID and stretches that out to an entire film (apt, given Joaquin Phoenix is in this too).

2: I get the feeling that Aster listens to the Conspirituality Podcast (which is excellent) because the character of Jefferson Davis was cookie-cutter conspiritualist. Also, Solidgoldmagikarp? Someone definitely collected Pokémon cards back in the day. 👍
