When the sentient beings of the time of quarrelling and five degenerations by the explosion of the great ocean of evil karma and jealousy are tormented by the intensive suffering of fighting and quarrelling, please dry this up by the power of transcendental wisdom and compassion.
Our self-cherishing thought is the root of all human problems. It makes our lives difficult and miserable. Bodhicitta substitutes others for self. It creates space in your mind.

A powerful jet plane needs a good pilot; the pilot of your mind should be the wisdom that understands its nature. Then you can direct your powerful mental energy to benefit your life instead of letting it run about uncontrollably like a mad elephant, destroying yourself and others.

If someone beats you with a stick, you usually do not get angry at the stick because it has no freedom; it is under the control of the person. Similarly, the person harming you is under the control of their anger. So they are an object of your practice of compassion.

Calm water is very clean and totally transparent, but we can’t see through dirty, disturbed water at all. Similarly, the attached mind can’t stay still; it’s always disturbed and obscured, like a sky filled with dust from a strong wind—everything is indistinct and blurred.
