I code for Apple platforms, build things that move and optionally push melted plastic through a hole. I like Star Treks and Missions Impossible. I made Headlines RSS for iOS (https://macbirdie.net/headlines). Señor iOS dev at @AppUnite.
You can just mod things. Granted, some hot air and microscope work needed.

Made a Pi Pico infinitely less annoying. Those microUSB to USB-C conversion boards are pretty cool!

Apparently because I merely follow a certain American vice president here on Bluesky, I’m automatically blocked by hundreds of people based on a bunch of some stupid lists. This might surprise some, but interacting with stuff you don’t agree with does not make you agree with the stuff.

The masculine urge to fake one’s death to frame a young and upcoming agent into being a mole.

I understand Cook's motives for sucking up to a wannabe dictator baby, it's his responsibility to the company and its shareholders, but the bearing gifts part is just disgusting. As much as I love Apple design ethos and the hardware-software stack, its business side is gross.
President Trump and Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, announced Wednesday that Apple would invest an additional $100 billion in the U.S., after Cook presented Trump with a 24-karat gold gift and lavished him with praise. Read more: nyti.ms/3J2VVue

Bought a "broken" PS4 Pro with no disk and a ripped off 5V connector. Rebuilt the pads, put a new socket back, cleaned it all up, and it works! On 8.50 firmware no less which is a win. Feels so satisfying to bring such a scarred device back to life.

Oh my. The Switch Pro Controller 2 exemplifies everything wrong with modern, repair-hostile hardware design. Such a downgrade from the first one, which is a relative breeze to get into.

Seeing how Iga’s pasta with strawberries caused a stir, to say the least, if those are cherry pierogies, we’re on the brink of a thermonuclear war.

Windows is so bad, especially in small helpful details. I downloaded the Media Creation Tool to make a USB installation drive, it tells me I need at least 8GB on C: to do that. Fine. I make the available space and come back to the tool. It only offers to Close, and I need to run it again.

Nice jail you got there, ps4 pro, would be a shame if someone opened it using some obscure Japanese visual novels.

People seem to be going even after the ones following JD Vance’s account here. This is stupid. If you don’t like him, don’t follow him or just block him. But don’t block people who are most likely following him to see what BS he is spewing if not anything else.

Bought a Dualsense controller destroyed by a FIFA rage quit to the wall. This is going to be interesting. Doesn’t turn on, doesn’t charge. I suspect main IC reflow or reball is needed.

My kid made me an Ellie minifigure, as he’s seen me play the game recently (unfortunately). Tried to spare him the gore, so stopped whenever some action was going to happen and I just explored the environment, solved the puzzles and enjoyed the views.

I really like the new Apple design language, the implementation needs some tweaks for sure, but this is funny

My Headlines app has been unchanged for the last few years, just didn't have any good reason to improve the UI, but this year might be The Year. Also, locally run LLM through Apple's APIs can help in introducing useful stuff like better summaries or some kind of a catch up feature.

Among small OS-level improvements in iOS I'd welcome with open arms, an ability to ban apps from certain features -- like playing sounds or accessing the accelerometer -- would be near the top of my list.
