Passing laws for gender justice since 1978.
"Running the table" - when legislators make decisions about which remaining bills from the session will get funded with any remaining available revenue - is always a nail-biter. Many of our priority bills received funding including family planning, Respite for ME, menopause education and more.

All eight anti-trans bills have been defeated in the Maine Legislature! While we will surely see more attempts to roll back human rights in Maine and nationally in the next few years, but today, we can celebrate this victory, and know that we are that much stronger for it.

The Maine Senate has voted AGAINST 2 of the proposals attempting to roll back civil rights for trans Mainers! Thank you to the senators that voted against these bills. The House will take up more anti-trans bills today. Tell your Reps to vote against them all! secure.everyaction.com/aWNoJHSh9EWy...

Reupping this powerful opinion piece from Wayne Maines that ran in the @bangordailynews.bsky.social earlier this week. When you let love guide you instead of fear or ignorance, you make the world a better place.
I didn’t think transgender kids were real. My love for my daughter changed that.
“Please, reject these anti-trans bills not just because they’re harmful, but because even someone like me, who once held more conservative views, came to see that my child didn’t need to be changed. I...

Yesterday was a long, tough and inspiring day at the state house as more than 300 PEOPLE showed up to offer testimony in opposition to 8 anti-trans bills. We are so proud to be a part of this community that stands up for the rights of ALL Mainers!

I’m troubled by the spate of anti-trans bills in the Maine Legislature — LD 233, LD 380, LD 868, LD 1134, LD 1337, LD 1432 — targeting trans girls in sports and the protections of the Maine Human Righ...

Tomorrow a swath of bills that would seek to deny trans people - especially trans youth - a number of civil rights will be heard before the Maine Legislature. We firmly oppose all these bills and will be there to voice our opposition to them, and our support of the trans community in Maine.

We had a great time participating in @mainewomenslobby.bsky.social's Girls' Lobbying Day in Augusta! Our policy fellow led a group of girls through the legislative process for a bill affecting school start times and how the public can engage. We're excited to see what's next for these new leaders!

We are proud to join our allies in the Mainers for Tax Fairness Coalition for a Tax Day Rally on April 15 in Augusta! Congress is gutting Social Security, Medicaid, health care (including family planning!) education, veterans’ care and more — just to bankroll tax cuts for the ultra-rich.

It is more important than ever that the Maine Legislature pass LD 143, which will help fund family planning services in Maine. And it is more important than ever that we call upon Sen. Collins, the Chair of the Senate’s budget committee, to demand the restoration of Congress’s funding priorities.

Yesterday at the state house was all about healthy outcomes for birthing families and babies! We started the day gathering with the Maine Doula Coalition and partner organizations for Doula Advocacy Day, advocating for expanded access to doula care in Maine.

The Maine Women's Lobby supports LD 1089 because it has a two-fold benefit: improving the overall fairness of the tax code, and also restoring the State resources that help us build the infrastructure our families need to thrive.
Raise taxes on Maine’s wealthy? Some of them are OK with that
An added 4% tax on incomes over $1 million and capital gains over $250,000 could generate more than $200 million in annual revenue for the state, according to estimates provided to lawmakers.

Maine K-12 schools are likely violating Title IX, but not because of transgender inclusion in sports. Systemic patterns of sexual harassment and assault undermine educational equity, and this is a fantastic time for a genuine investigation and commitment to addressing the problem.
Opinion: Maine may be violating Title IX, but it has nothing to do with transgender athletes
"Instead of tackling misogyny in schools, politicians are perpetuating the conditions that lead to more violence by dehumanizing and scapegoating transgender athletes."

While terrible abortion bills that won't pass are getting lots of attention, a far more important bill is currently before the Maine legislature: LD 143, which would invest in Maine's family planning sites to ensure essential healthcare services are available, accessible, and affordable.

In 2024, women out-earned men in just 2 out of 131 occupations. The wage gap is real.

One of the ways we’re working to close the gap is to pass the Maine Equal Rights Amendment, which will ensure that all people are protected from gender discrimination.

"If he truly cares about women and girls and people of this country, let’s see the economic plan. Let’s see the health care plan. Let’s see the education plan.”

We'd like to see that too, instead of chaos, distractions and hurting vulnerable people.
