(the time it was written being like WW1, WW2, Vietnam etc... neverending bloodshed driven by emotions rather than everyone working together for the greater good and a better tomorrow. I think there is something very spiritual about wanting to build a better world for all despite your own tragedies)

Especially the time when it was written. What if love ISNT enough to save your society? People justify terrible things in the name of love; love of your country love of your beliefs love of people hurt or killed. Maybe the only way to break the cycle is to stop acting on emotion and pride.

Right! I feel like people can't imagine placing your personal feelings aside to strive for a greater purpose (peace) as something inherently spiritual when literally thats THE basic character trait of most religious and spiritual figures irl! There's so much weight you can add to Vulcans

Literally gave me that's so Raven visions to an alternate reality where vulcan men were established as having long hair in tos and we got sick hairstyles for all Vulcans 😌 (or at least some silly ponytails for the guys)

Do modern writers know how many aliens and characters were just straight up named after real classical people In TOS? The famous vulcan bowl cut is also so clearly an ancient Roman combover!! Theee classic men's hairstyle! Idk. The 60s fascination with philosophy is what made Vulcans so compelling

Like hippie culture is directly inspired by ideas of classical culture (particularly from ancient greece) with bits of Hinduism and Buddhism sprinkled on top (varying from surface level aesthetics to serious conversion) if you don't understand hippies you won't understand the intent behind vulcans

I think the loss of classical history/art being taught in American schools is also to blame for the flattening of Vulcans post TOS. like I don't have the words but Vulcans are so of their time (60s) a weird mashup of eastern mysticism and counterculture philosophy

okay do we think these hats were more inspired by phrygian caps or tibetan monk hats (ive seen the term pandit hats, but im not 100% sure. It seems there are many types of monk headwear with many different names)

i would love to see the costume designers notes on where they were sourcing items, and what they were looking at to draw inspiration, but its hard to find anything talking about vulcan costumes specifically . . . (also im sure theres some weird orientalism involved 💀)

i would love to make a reference sheet of all the canonical vulcan clothing we see and the real-world inspirations for them. most inspo seems to be vaguley middle-eastern/asian clothing. alot of accessories and headdresses remind me of tibetan+mongolian+nepalese traditional dress specifically
