Definitely seeing bird flu. Rehabbers in Oregon are NOT ALLOWED to take duck or geese per ODFW due to how contagious it is. Dove Lewis may take for euthanasia, but pls call them to confirm before handling any birds. And do NOT take inside the hospital. Staff likely to meet you outside.
PROBABLE H5N1 outbreak in Hillsboro area, multiple places are reporting sick/dying/dead geese.

Just planted a lot of native plants in the backyard this week. And this morning saw a junco jumping onto get a berry off a snowberry plant. It’s ridiculous how much joy this gives me.

Completely obsessed with Cain Culto lately.
Culto was an Evangelical pastor. After coming out he began creating music under the name Cain Culto 👑: the Biblical figure Cain and Spanish word for worship. This Cooper’s hawk hit a window at End of Oregon Trail Historical site. They called our org July 30th to capture the hawk that was in their porch. After healing a coracoid fracture, brought him back to the site to release yesterday. Windows are brung treated to prevent future window strikes.

Was unsuccessful getting the skunk out today. MCAS’ live trap was too small so we tried lowering a cat carrier down. Apparently the skunk has dug itself a den in the dirt and crawled into it to hide. Will need to acquire a live trap and come back tomorrow.

Currently stuck in traffic but heading to meet deputy fire chief, county animal control services and hopefully we can brainstorm away to get this skunk out of his hole. Anyone have a drop?
