The Critically Endangered Jerdon's Courser has been rediscovered in Andhra Pradesh, India, outside its known range for the first time in 125 years. Thought to survive only in a tiny patch of the Lankamalla hills, the elusive bird was detected through acoustic recordings by a team of birders in August 2025. The find provides fresh hope for the species, ranked among the world’s top ten 'lost birds', and highlights the urgent need to safeguard India's remaining scrubland habitats.

We're taking legal action to stop 100,000 tonnes of sediment being dumped in Beachy Head West Marine Conservation Zone every year for the next 10 years. This should not be allowed in a protected area.

Red Bartsia Bees only take pollen from that plant and are mainly a chalk downland species in Sussex, but several today in a Red Bartsia-rich meadow at Weir Wood Reservoir in the High Weald, attended by their parasitic Blunthorn Nomad Bees. @sussexwildlife.bsky.social

A high of 24 active nests have been monitored across the UK - more than at any time in the last 10 years of monitoring.

An average of 3.8 young fledged from nests too, signalling a productive spring.

It's a myth 🙂. Goshawks are very showy except when breeding. Territorial behaviour can be seen from autumn to spring and juveniles spar with their siblings from June into autumn. Way easier than Honey-buzzard, LSW or Hawfinch. There may be 70 pairs of Goshawk in Sussex now.
