A shadow crosses Queen Momo’s face, as she lowers her gaze on their entangled fingers. “This would be a wise advice, my huntress, if only somebody loved me. I’m the most hated woman in the realm. They still think I killed the King. They think I’m a monster.” Jirou can’t stand it, the pained self loathing painted all over the queen’s face. The room is filled with the queen’s scent, charged with fear and sadness, and this makes her hand shake. Every sorrow Momo ever had to endure is her own sorrow too. And she hates it. She wants to be the fire that warms her in cold winters, her air to breathe, her crystalline water to drink, her light in the dark.

He shakes his head, disappointed in himself for panicking no matter how briefly it was. It was just an old wives’ tale told to scare children into behaving; nothing more than that. He pushes himself forward, continuing down the familiar snow covered path. As he walks, though, he listens for any sounds, strange or familiar. Still nothing. In the time it takes him to reach his grandfather’s cabin, the feeling has returned tenfold, panic settling in the pit of his stomach. Every instinct screams at him that something is wrong. To turn around and run. As he rounds the corner of the cabin, a shaky gasp escapes him. The front door is cracked open.
