Isolated from other continents for much of the Cenozoic, South America has developed a degree of biotic endemism only outdone by Australia. In the scrubland and semidesert in the continent's south, giant reptiles abound. (1/13)

One of the most commonly sighted tetrapods in the waterways and flooded forests of the Gulf Coast, the Banded Alliguana is part of a great radiation of plant-eating alligatorines found throughout the Americas in the New Age of Reptiles. (1/10)

In a world where whales and other marine mammals never developed, reptiles have repeatedly taken to the seas with great success. These oceanic invasions have produced a staggering diversity of marine reptiles rivaling that of the preceding Mesozoic. (1/13)

The orinoco crocodile is one of my favorite species but also extremelly endangered, its estimated that less than 100 individuals remain in the wild. It hurts my soul to its core seeing these species on the brink of extinction...

As I do every year, Ive tried to make a small contribution to this day: My favorite animal in the world, the critically endangered Caimán llanero (C. intermedius), a species to which I am determined to dedicate my life to conserve.

Probably the last large Sebecidae to inhabit this world before the extinction of the family during late Miocene (Or even during early Pliocene if we take into consideration possible relict island populations in the Antilles).
