I wish this weren’t the case, but we now see Trump’s peace deals unravelling one by one, as expected.

The US FED will probably lower interest rates this week, but they shouldn’t. Inflation is way above target and the central bank can’t counteract the lasting damage Trump is doing to the economy. It should help the economy adapt to lower growth.

The best of today’s UK budget is no cut in investment, no rise in employer NI rates and no more two child cap, which will cut child poverty significantly. However, there is no big reform of the tax system, just tweaks.

Not since 2008 have US workers been so worried about their jobs. This signals a coming recession, as these expectations are self-fulfilling.

UK pay growth of 4.4% is not pointing to inflation returning to target with non-existent productivity growth. Bank rate should be higher, as it is almost zero in real terms.

You can justify anything with a long reasoning chain, the Fed should not end its sensible QT programme to prop up banks’ profits or those of other market participants. It’s not their role and their tendency to prop up markets makes bubbles so big.

All Milei had to do was to look at his country’s own history. Long periods of real overvaluation of the currency are unsustainable, unless you have a politically and socially sustainable incomes policy.

Milei’s reforms were overdue, but misguided without support for the poor. The biggest problem is the impatience of getting inflation down by allowing real overvaluation.

It’s normal for new transformative technologies to cause bubbles. It’s part of the process. However, the size of the bubble is not inevitable. Central banks should not be leaning in, but the opposite. It’s also unnecessary to make the bond market so unattractive. #Bubble

Trump insists that he wants to decide which companies South Korea and Japan invest in as part of a trade deal. This is the height of corruption and authoritarianism. American companies better make Trump happy with political affiliation and private benefits.
