🚨an update🚨

Friday was my last day reporting for WDRB News. The last 12 years were rewarding beyond measure. I’m proud of the work we did to disrupt Louisville/KY journalism and grow a pie that, on the best days, makes us a better informed and engaged community. Thanks for reading and watching.

U. of Louisville President Kim Schatzel was lauded for a ‘strong performance’ in her job review last July. She told campus members in February she was excited about the school’s progress, and later attended the SOTU.

Today she resigned.

From @marcusgreen.bsky.social: A #kyga25 bill that quickly morphed from 4 to 147 pages with late amendments had an error in it that would not deliver the tax breaks intended for LA-based Danny Wimmer Presents to do Louder Than Life and Bourbon & Beyond music events in Louisville.

Kentucky moves closer to new rules for the fast-growing THC seltzer industry. Supporters say it's an attempt at 'parity.'

One opponent disagrees: 'You're going to get treated and taxed like that--like bourbon--but you're only going to be able to sell Michelob Ultra.'

In allowing citizens to petition for new suburban cities in Jefferson County, Kentucky lawmakers created a grey area that requires no lobbying or campaign finance disclosures on a very public policy matter — as seen in the battle for a new city of Eastwood.

The Louisville TIF bill was sent back to committee to ‘improve it,’ Rep. Nemes told me last week. It moved quickly on Tuesday, per @joesonka.lpm.org

NEW: Kentucky’s GOP supermajority slid last-minute massive tax changes into a bill before it cleared a committee, and hours before it passed the House chamber Tuesday. The most significant change makes it easier to hit annual budget triggers for income tax cuts. #kyga25

In 2024, Ky. lawmakers approved tax breaks for data centers--the server farms that handle digital data--in Louisville. Months later, developers unveiled plans for one.

There's now interest in expanding the subsidies to rural Kentucky, according to the Senate president.

The Louisville mayor’s office said last week there wasn’t a cost estimate for transforming the downtown Belvedere plaza because the design has not been finalized. But planning documents reviewed by @wdrbnews.bsky.social give the first glimpse into a price tag.

Preservationists are citing the controversial protections for Louisville’s Drumanard estate as a reason why the Urban Government Center property should be labeled a landmark — a move that could spare buildings the city’s chosen developer wants to demolish.
