"An exception to many rules." What exactly does that mean? A coworker used a variation of that phrase to describe me. As a transfem non-binary person forced to reckon with being a bundle of contradictions to "the rules", I felt oddly seen even flattered. I claimed that description with pride.
Fun show. Really only annoyed Sinners lost costuming. Like hot damn the vibes of those fits were stellar!
Sinners. No surprise there. 🫤 I can't help but feel disappointed... Like yeah it probably was the best wide release of the nominees, but like we all know it's gonna KILL it in mainstream award shows in a few months. A smaller show like this is better highlighting smaller releases.
Final award best wide release film: trends suggest it'll be Sinners. Do wish something smaller would get recognized but this IS fan voted and Sinners was a HELL of a crowd pleaser.
Yup Coogler nabbed it. He's winning BIG tonight. No real surprise Sinners really IS a masterpiece!
Best Director: Coogler has got this in the bag quite frankly, but there's some stiff competition so we'll see...
DEMI MOORE!!!! AHHH!!!! Wish she was available to accept the award but hell she deserves SOME recognition!
Best lead: Demi Moore 100% deserves it. Michael B. Jordan is practically assured an Oscar. Let Demi Moore have this at least! 🤞🤞🤞
Went to: Terrifier 3... Yup that looked pretty brutal.
GWAR is presenting an award! That's awesome! Best kill; too PERFECT! Write in so no noms no idea what could win.
Best streaming premiere: not seen any of these either went to Mr. Crockett.
Azrael won. Seems neat.
Best limited release: glad the separate limited from wide release. The budget differences in films aren't accounted for by many awards shows, this is a neat way to do that. Haven't seen any of the noms cause... Well... Limited and I'm in the Midwest.
Best international film: haven't seen any of the Oddity won. 🤷
I appreciate that Fangoria keeps the pace of the show going at a good clip. Allows them to spend time on transparency. They're going over the voting process in detail now.
Appreciate that Coogler recorded acceptance speeches. So many of the larger winners don't make time for Fangoria's modest show.
Sinners 🫤 don't get me wrong the script was amazing but really feel like people are sleeping on Heretic.
Best screenplay: Sinners might get it but DAMN Heretic was SOO well written.
Second one went to: archive director of Severin Films, Curtis Rx for film preservation work. Glad preservationists are getting recognized. It's SUCH important work!
Editors Eyeball award: spotlighting individual filmmakers. First of two went to Ksusha Genenfeld for her work in shooting on film and preserving that aspect of the production of the medium.
The Last of Us 🙄 I suppose I should have seen that coming. It's a good show just feels a bit like it saturates culture.
Best series: don't know most of these, but hope it's one of the smaller ones I haven't heard of.
Screamboat is getting a sequel. 🤷 Idk maybe I *should* watch it.
Screamboat got it. 🤷 Ok
New category: best public domain restoration: can't say I care for these. Feel cheap.
An appreciation of horror hosts. Never watched any horror hosts myself. They were kind of a concept before my time barely hanging on. 🫤 Probably would have been more important to me had I been born 10-20 years earlier.
