November was one of the lowest writing months I've had in a long time. A major car accident derailed my life for a while followed by a funeral and the holidays (Thanksgiving and my sister's birthday). Trying to resettle and recenter for December before the holidays shake everything up again.

I'm going to work on a spin-off short story in the Safe Haven universe. Different characters, expanded setting and worldbuilding, same romantic yearning.

From Safe Haven:

Distantly, he heard the front door open, hanging there, letting cold air and city sounds inside, and then closing again, leaving the restaurant quieter for all those who had exited.

I love queer romance books in speculative settings (sci-fi, fantasy, etc.) What are your recs?

Note to self... if you can't find your favorite earrings, check you travel makeup bag. You just never unpacked it three months ago.

From Safe Haven:

It felt like he kept trying to edge Haven into a corner from one direction, then the next, then the next. To trap him into vulnerability? Honesty?

From Safe Haven:

From couch to armchair, Bliss and Bennie shared a couple look, knowing in their own special language. Perry’s stomach squirmed.

From Safe Haven:

A generous interpretation was that Haven was giving the friends space to catch up; a less generous one would be that he was avoiding being relegated to third-wheel status in his own home.

My full manuscript request ended with a rejection. Sigh. Back to the querying trenches. #AmQuerying

From Safe Haven:

It made Haven want something — selfishly — more than he had wanted anything in a very long time. He wanted to keep spending his time under Perry’s attention.

Nothing like having the insurance agency of the truck that rear-ended you in an at-fault state with a witness and a driver who admitted fault multiple times completely ghost you. (Been having a bad week)

I've read a lot of the Great Gatsby retellings since it went into the public domain and I find it interesting how long most of them are compared to the original. Just a testament to how effective the original less than 50k words of the original were.

From Safe Haven:

Warning sirens beeped with each movement as an excavator dug into silty dirt, the shouts of a dozen construction workers calling back and forth filled the air, and yet Verity spoke more than loud enough to be heard.

Where are the main places you get reading recs from? For me, from friends/family, from what my friends are reading and reviewing on goodreads, library browsing (I'm a librarian, so this happens every day), searching for books with specific tropes, archtypes, or readalikes to books I like.

But Sincere, his best friend... His shoulder to lean on, cry on, vent to, who was always ready to lie and say Perry was with them when he wasn’t, and always amicable to Perry trailing off mid-conversation to start scribbling out a new plant theory.

From Safe Haven, a real short snip today:

Diginity’s voice turned to cold steel. “We're leaving. Now.”

I used to only write stories chronlogically (probably because I started with fanfic where you push serially), now I jump all around the place in my first draft. It's a patchwork quilt that I make make sense later. #WritSky #WritingCommunity
