Finished The Party by Tessa Hadley. Small (115 pages) but perfectly formed. I do love novellas. I want to see more of them published. This one would make a nice Christmas present for the literary type in your life

Watching Magpie, the new Daisy Ridley film. Her husband is a literary novelist so of course their house is enormous. He’s also an utter cock and their daughter is incredibly annoying. Good film though 😆

My new favourite programme is Cheaters. It’s so more moreish with its 10-minute episodes, the TV equivalent of a tube of Pringles

Finished The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. Wonderful writing, atmospheric setting and a compelling mystery with a satisfying ending. One of the best books of 2024.

There’s no crying in karate . . . but I might shed a tear over the end of Cobra Kai. Corny and cheesy but always gloriously entertaining, exciting and - thanks to the brilliant William Zabka - hilariously funny. I’m going to miss it.

My current biggest first world problem is that season 3 of Hacks still hasn’t been released in the UK. Why oh why, is it beyond the wit of man, etc.

Watched the new blu ray of The Blair Witch Project which came out this week. TBH it doesn’t seem very different but it’s still my favourite horror film. The last 15 minutes is utter genius.

This was so much fun. I rarely do public readings so I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. There’s nothing like the live reaction of a crowd. A great group of authors too.
A fantastically full house last night for our final NOIR AT THE BOOKSHOP AND BAR of the year. A huge thank you to @cmacwritescrime.bsky.social and our speakers David Beckler, F.E. Birch, David Costa, Mark Edwards, Dan Forrester, D.L. Marshall, Roger Price, Charlotte Stevenson and Catherine Wimpeney.

Any fans of The Diplomat on here? Just started S1 and it seems well-made, well-acted etc but am not really hooked yet.

Current read: The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. Instantly hooked. Love the voice and the 70s period detail. 2024 has been the year of loooong novels.
