For new followers, hi! I don't really know how to describe myself these days, but I used to work on @steamdb.info and various WoW tools intended to make data more accessible to more people. I'm pro-open data, anti-ad and a big supporter of game archival, with a personal focus on archiving WoW stuff.
That said, I hope the experimental team continue cooking. Orlando Salvatore (Plunderstorm, MoP Remix) and Josh Miller (MoP/Legion Remix) both left, and I have no idea how big the team is to figure out if that's a big deal or not. I hope that secret gamemode we've seen some hints of isn't scrapped.🤫🙏
Not going to be able to 100% Legion Remix, but that's okay. Can't have FOMO murder the fun, it was a blast and a great excuse to get a whole bunch of max level characters on Horde. Hope some of the lessons from it can make their way into other content too and maybe even a Remix in the future.

Good TV-related news ICYMI:
- The writers room (with many old writers) for the new Stargate show is starting work tomorrow.
- Star Trek: Academy premieres on the 15th, early reviews are largely positive (woke trek returns, get owned).
- The Pitt got renewed for Season 3 (Season 2 started last week).

Hi Ian!

Picking my battles is becoming far harder than it was when I wrote the blog post only 2-3 weeks ago.

Slept about 12 hours, maybe 14 total, yesterday. Felt refreshed and I think maybe even cured, then caught up on all the (largely bad) news and it is 4AM again and my heart is restless. No clue how to escape it or tune out without losing access to valuable or work-related news/social connections.

Did a quick model naming pass. My favorite 3 new models: UVMapMan, UVMapDog and UVMapBird*.
(*unofficial names, silliness applies)

Thread reminded me I need to lock in and name some of these. Thanks!

This is so cool!
We've been slowly refactoring the S2V renderer to be self contained and now it's reached a point where it lives a separate package (and published to nuget). This opens the road to use the renderer for things like automating screenshots or implementing other viewers on top.

Cleaned myself up and went to old job place to hang for a bit because I needed to get out of the house and be normal. Made it all the way through it but crashed the moment I got home. Massive headache now, clearly still sick and overexerted massively, oops. Back to bed.

The size classification is very arbitrary right now and uses very simple logic for deciding how big a model is, this will likely need further tweaking in the future but works fine for now.

Update on this. I have automatic tagging working for FileType, M2Size, ModelFeature and EncryptionStatus tags. I need to add a proper UI for filtering by them in WTL, but here is a sample search for "large" models that have physics bones AKA "tag:modelfeature=physics,tag:m2size=large".

Okay, the cold finally did me in, woke up with a sore throat and a cough. All the snow still makes it worth it, though!

Couldn't go without my weekly sandwiches from the local sandwich shop and I wouldn't feel good if I made the delivery person go through the sludge/snow/ice so I took another walk. 7.5k steps! It's too bad this snow probably won't be here in a week or this might have become a new years tradition.

Haven't seen this much snow in years. This is great.

Current dye system has a limit of 256 different colors with about a quarter of that currently in use for decor dyes, I don't think this is the truly free/data-driven dye system we envisioned as there's still the limited number of rows in the color lookup texture (see below). Maybe one day..

The current list of tags can be found here: github.com/wowdev/wow-f...

For tags with preset options, the current list of options per tag can be found here: github.com/wowdev/wow-f...

If anyone has any ideas for tags, please let me know, these would e.g. power better searching inside various tools!

Started work on one of the projects I wanted to tackle this year. Instead of a list of filenames, a list of tags for files might work better for some usecases (more @ blog.marlam.in/reflection-2...).

I've started up a repo (github.com/wowdev/wow-f...) as well as a UI in WTL for managing the tags.

Don't remember the last time I spent over 8 hours sleeping or with this high of a sleep score. Went to bed at 8 because I couldn't be bothered reading or hearing any more about the current state of the world. Woke up just now around 5. 8h23m of sleep. Wow. Logging this one for the history books.

Got 2-3 hours last night and just gave up, attempting to make something productive out of today regardless. Fuck it.
